O I'm looking to invest in some 39.5" irok radials in a couple months and wanted to see some pics of trimming you guys have done to fit the bigger rubbers!

Anyone??

Tread width on those Iroks is 11". What is the width and backspacing of your wheels? If you are running them 8" wide wheels with 3-3.5" of backspacing, you are going to trim less. I've high clearanced the rear fenders like PKP80 (Sam) has documented a while back. I'm only running 38.5x11 boggers, but my next tire is going to be the 16/40-16 LTB. The front isn't as much of an issue for me because it looks like this now:

FYI, I chopped the C and D pillars, Caged around the front seats, and just finished shooting the whole truck in gray Al's liner. Here's the rear high clearanced:

Not to hijack. But Dafun1, do you have any more pictures of the whole truck? I like your idea to keep the headlamps and maximize clearance.

Back to the OP. this is my truck when it had about 6.5" lift and 37's. This is the trimming I did. In the front I am very confident I could have cleared 40's. In the rear, longer LCAs help keep the tire out of the door, but then you may run into the gas filler neck. Like dafun1 said, back spacing and wheel width can make a big difference.

That's alot of trimming lol, I have 16x10 wheels with I think 4.5" backspace with 1.5" spacers, it's more the rear I'm worried about, cutting and welding the body etc..

Nice, I was reading your thread a week ago or so, I don't want a huge amount of up travel, I have mostly down, I'm running about a 7" lift, and have about 5" up in the front and 3" up in the rear, I dont really want to completely cut out my fender wells

If you want to retain your inner fenders in the front, you can do the "cut and fan" method with the inner fender, and make a lip either by cutting tabs or welding a L channel to the outer fender to reattach the two. A few guys on here have done so. I think Christo Slee was the originator of the clean cut. You can clean up the rear cut buy folding it back like PKP80 did. The deal with back spacing and width is, the wider you go, the less you run into problems with farms/suspension/inner wheels wells, but the more you have to trim the body. I'm down to 4" of lift now and I do see 40's or bigger in my future. I think if I want to stay with this much lift I will have to get creative and probably cut into the doors a bit. I think you will be able to do it without having to get into the inner wells, with the lift you have, and the limited up travel.

I'll post some pics later today. 16x10's with 3 inches of backspacing (after spacers) might need high clearancing in the rear at 4" of lift. The outer edge of the tire might not tuck. But it will be close. Front should be good, though you may need to trim to the rear of front. Slap them on and flex it to see where you need to cut. My front chop job is a little extreme :)

At 6" of lift you should be golden. I didn't catch that. I'm only running mediums up front and stock replacement height springs in the rear with a 1" body lift. Hence the cutting.

Correct I am running a 6", in the rear what about rolling the fenders? There's a gap, maybe pinch weld all along the rear arch, if rolled would give an extra inch or so yeah?

Here's some night time shots for you Trauma (sorry to thread jack...):

I doubt you are going to need to do much at 6" if you have the bumpstops extended enough.

How do you get in that thing? I guess you climb in through the back since you don't have a passenger front seat. Talk about dedicated wheeler!

It is actually my DD! I get in from the side and just slide in Dukes of Hazard style. I went with a body cage design that is as supportive of the A and B pillars as I could get along with a good amount of triangulation. It is only 1.5" HREW, so I over compensated a little ;). There are no bends either, only cuts and welds. I thread jacked again... Sorry

I hope you don't have a long commute! I assume you climb between the tube and B pillar?

Ok, so as not to hijack this thread, I trimmed mine for 37's but have plenty of extra room. There was room to trim more and may be enough for 40's with the proper bump stops:

You easily have room for 40's! I live on an Air Force Base, and work on base as well, so my commute is about a mile one way. js93cruiser, put them on and then trim to fit. Won't be much at 6" of lift. I sound like a broken record...

Yea that's what I figured, but I also pushed the front axle foreward a few inches so my 37's rub where the ac dryer is, and my rears rub on my 4x labs bumper

On the rear of mine i was able to cut the outer body in about 1.5 inch wide sections and fold them over the inner. I put a few self-tappers in them and also reused some the factory bolts and clips from the front fenders to hold the rear outer and inner together. Then i just rolled on some new durabak to cover it all. On the front I cut the whole inner out, then cut the outer in sections like the rear and just folded it in on itself to make the lip of the fender kinda rounded off. don't have pics with me right now but I can get some in couple days when I get home.
