ok talking to my dad tonight on the drive home from colorado. He was talking about putting a supercharger on the lexus. but im sure it voids all warrentys right? i mean he has an extended lexus warrenty so maybe its a bad idea? also they were some probs with these last i heard, then i heard there was nothing wrong with them whats the deal? also whats a good cost for these and how much you thinkit would cost to get it installed?

thanks
mike

if it is the toyota part and installed by toyota/lexus dealer it will come with a 12 month / 12k mile warranty - after that, all bets are off for the s-charger and any parts that blow up because of it

that 12 month warranty covers everything for that period of time? such as motor tranny just over all drivetrain?

thanks
mike

oooh, good question. normally i run into this adding stuff on vehicles that still have factory warranty still remaining. i would say that if the truck has zero warranty on it as of right now, the 12/12 would only pertain to the factory item being added. maybe c-dan can chime in and add some additional insight from here...

I doubt they would warrant a whole engine past 60K (or 120K) when they add a TC. But I thought that if you had the TRD TC installed it did not effect the warranty for the rest of your engine/drivetrain ect ( install at 20K warranty still good to 60K)... That is supposed to be the point of the TRD idea, designed for the car to Toyota's standards and so it doesn't negatively effect reliability / warranty.

OK from the source .... Toyota TRD website
Power with Confidence

When installed by a Toyota dealer, the TRD truck supercharger warranty works seamlessly with your Toyota new vehicle warranty. If installed by a Toyota dealer on a vehicle with any of its new vehicle power train warranty remaining, you will receive either 12 months, unlimited mileage from the date of installation or the remainder of the new vehicle power train warranty, whichever is longer. Units installed by do-it-yourselfers have a 12-month, unlimited mileage warranty. All warranties require that the system is not modified, abused, used in any type of motor sports activity or installed in any application for which it is not intended.

.....also from the same site
Superchargers may be purchased and installed from any Toyota dealer, nationwide. When installed by a Toyota dealer, TRD Supercharger systems are warranted for the remainder of the vehicle’s Toyota Powertrain Warranty.

Not quite as clear as I thought it would be. But Sounds like if it goes on before the drivetain warranty expires the warranty on both goes to 6yrs/60K if installed by a dealer. After 60K or if installed DIY TC only is warranted for 12 months unlimited mileage.

Interesting FAQ on the TRD TC site....

Q: My supercharger makes a moderately loud noise under full throttle or sometimes may rattle at idle. Is this normal for a supercharger?
A: Yes. The pumping action of a supercharger compressing air is impossible without some noise. Additionally, a slight rattle at idle is normal, but is will sharply decrease at 400-500 RPM above idle if the unit is properly installed. Please contact TRD for additional details.

Q: Does the supercharger reduce the life of the engine?
A: TRD has conducted hundreds of hours of continuous full-throttle dynamometer testing to measure the supercharger’s effect on engine life. After these tests, TRD was able to conclude that the supercharger does not reduce engine life, as there was no noticeable additional wear on the engine’s critical parts, such as pistons, rings, valves and bearings.

Q: How does the supercharger impact fuel economy?
A: Overall fuel economy largely depends on the driver, and there is no escaping the laws
of physics. An increase in power requires a nearly proportional increase in fuel consumption. Bottom line. An engine producing 250hp uses more fuel than one producing 190hp.

Q: Will my truck require any additional maintenance after a supercharger is installed?
A: TRD recommends changing the oil inside the supercharger unit after 100,000 miles. Other than that, the normal factory recommended maintenance schedule should be followed.

Q: What type of testing has been done to assure the long-term reliability of engines equipped with the TRD Supercharger?
A: All engines were subjected to an extensive engine dynamometer durability test involving 240 hours at wide-open throttle at a variety of speeds (RPM). No additional engine wear or failures occurred.

Unfortunately the web site did not list a TC for the 2UZ-FE just the 1FZ.

Years ago I was looking into this for a Tacoma and did some research locally. What I found is my local Toyota dealership said they would do the install no problem, as long as what I gave them was original, new TRD parts (they didn't say it, but probably some sort of receipt to show when you bought them, etc). They asked me why I would do that and I said I could buy the SC alot cheaper online, then just have them install it, they said that wouldn't be a problem. That was several years ago though, so not sure if that still applies now. I never took them up on it, however, never had a SC installed.

This was at Burt Toyota in the Denver area.

Good luck

I have installed a few of these on the V8 4runners. Incredible power gains, super fun to drive. Unfortunately you can not currently get one from TRD. I have been waiting for two of them for almost nine months now. They were put on stop sale, due to what I have heard was some ECU programming logic that damaged some engines. TRD has not posted a release date and nobody there knows what is going on with them. Hopefully TRD will release it soon, because it is a big boost in power.

Discussing the installation of a V8 supercharger is a moot point as TRD suspended sales of them some time back and there is NO plan to re-release them at this time.

Not correct. All V8 applications are affected.

Is that a $5,000 toy like the Safari?

22's

By then will you have the suspension programmed for the opposite effect (lowered) and some 22's?

Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?

Don't know if it's such a great idea to try to set new land-speed records in a Land Cruiser.
