I've got the bad type of breathers like the ones pictured in this thread https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/20...hboard-vibration-shudder.819788/#post-9387777
They are the upside down umbrella handle looking things, anyone who has ever driven a car would know that these things wont work but someone decided they were a good idea. Short or going to the dealer and having them do it and mess up about 4732498753984 other things and have them not even do a good job in the first place, how could I fix this myself before water gets in? I was thinking of putting some foam over them so water couldn't just directly splash up in there but what do you guys think? I know everyone just extends the front diff breather into the engine bay but I've never heard of doing that with these. That seems dangerous if some idiot gets a steam cleaner or water hose and goes ape in there, its one thing for the front diff but for the transmission and trans case it could seriously mess things up.

TL / DR quoted post.

I Y'd the trans and front diff breather near the area where the breathers normally attach to the trans dipstick. I attached tubing from the top of the Y up to a sheltered area just to the rear of the power brake booster. I stuck a small fuel filter on the end of that tube and held everything down with cable ties. About a 15 minute no-banana job.

Anybody figure this out for the 2004+ trucks without a trans dipstick? Is it basically the same? I'm waiting to take delivery of a new to me 2004 lx470 and like to nip this in the bud early.

So I just spoke to the dealer here in Vegas and they had never heard of or encountered this issue, and I have them my vin and they did not see the TSB associated with it. I then called corporate, who also said they did not see the TSB associated with my vin. I asked them to look up the TSB and work backwards to see if my tranny may be affected by this issue, and they didn't seem to want to comment much on the problem, especially since I haven't experienced any problems yet. They recommended taking it to the dealer to be inspected for potential issues/wligabilty etc. I may do that...
