I thought the 100 series came with a real transmission cooler, not just the bottom tank of radiator.
Also thought this was the story with 80 series too.
mostly on 4 runners for the milkshake problem. also in a few 100's but not as commonCommon practice? What models? Don't ever recall hearing of anyone doing it.
What are you hoping to accomplish?
Yes the 100 has both if it has an automatic transmission.I thought the 100 series came with a real transmission cooler, not just the bottom tank of radiator.

FJ62 it is a common practice to add a transmission cooler because they definitely do NOT come with one, other than radiator tank.
would you expound on the differences if any the bypass made on the operation or reliability of your four runners? did you install a bigger air to air oil cooler or just use the stock one alone?I had to do this on my previous 4runners to avoid the milkshake. I was also curious how the transmission cooler on the 100 differs.

Thanks for the pics. did the four runner have an oil cooler in front of the radiator before you added the one in the photo's?Radiator failure causing transmission fluid/coolant mix seems to be a 4runner/Tacoma issue. An easy mod was to put in an dedicated transmission cooler.
