Hi, I plan on taking my 92 LC to my local toyota dealer to have them flush my transmission fluid. But I have been hearing / reading mix comments about transmission flush.. some people its not good to flush on drain and fill and some says its good to flush. I think I've read more from people saying its not good to flush transmission.. so what do you guys think about it. Should I go ahead and have my local deal flush it or just drain and fill?

You don't want them to power flush it with your old seals. That will probably have more of a negative effect than a good one. You would want to either just drain the pan and refill or get you two buckets one empty and one with new transmission fluid then disconnect one of your transmission cooler lines, and hook up another hose to the transmission cooler so you have two hoses. Take the hose that sucks put it in the bucket with new transmission fluid and the other in the empty bucket then turn your car on to use the transmission's pump to exchange the old fluid with the new. When the fluid coming out into the old bucket turns clean stop and hook your cooler line back up then top off the fluid level.

Passive only.

Some places have those types of machines, but you want to make *really* sure that's what they have.

BTW: My 91's tranny is at 279K with only drain/refills and a filter cleaning every 100K. :meh:

no power flush

Drain, fill

Or if you are not sure if it has ever been done drain, drop pain clean filter
Install new pan gasket and refill.

You could do the fluid exchange. Drain fluid, measure how much you drain, pour in how much you drain through your dip stick tube with a tranny funnel. Disconnect one of the transmission cooler lines, top one I recall, hook up a clear vinyl tubing to the hose and start the engine. While the engine is running measure the fluid that is now being pumped into a clear jug that equals 1 qt less than you emptied earlier. Seems like on our 92 I drained 4 and then pumped out 3. Turn off engine, refill with 3 qts, repeat process until fluid is red. I'm thinking 20 qts did the trick. This is the best way to insure that virtually all the fluid is new and the torque converter gets changed as well. I have done this on all my vehicles with a transmission cooler. I think the process is referred to as Rodney's fluid exchange. Hope that helps.

Hi, In mine I drop the pans and flush completely about every 2 years. 330,000 miles on our fj-80 alone. Mike
