Pulled my transfer case apart. Noticed wear on one side of the idler shaft. Surprised the bearings are actually OK. Checked my spare parts, found another idler shaft and it looks the exact same.
Dealer says not available.
Anyone know of an after market supplier that sells 34MM idler shafts?

I'm tempted to cut a notch for the retainer on the other end of the idler shaft 90 degrees off and install it so the rough part will be on the opposite side of thrust. Also it will be on end of the gear that doesn't carry a load.

The rebuild kit I got from Cruiseroutfitters came with a new idler. Maybe check with him to see if you can buy the idler by itself.

Toyo part # (34mm shaft) is 36225-60030

1stoyotaparts.com says it's avail for 56.75 Call Cruiser Dan.

see my post for my fj62
there are 2 different sizes for a fj60
i think the cutoff is 1986 for the 38mm
I would go ahead with a rebuild of the transfer case while you have it apart total parts 150-200 including the idler shaft. This is what what was causing the whining noise in my fj62

Thanks! Much appreciated

Wonder if this is due to some parts availability problem with SE Toyota dealers. Last year I was working on a t-case and wanted to replace a the bushings in two of the gears. Local parts guy (in AL) said they were unavailable. Called John Hocker in AZ and had them in a few days.

SOR has them also. But I would get it from toyota.

SOR's is aftermarket. I bought an output shaft from them and it turned out to be $10 less than OEM from dealer, with mud discount. But it was a nicely made shaft, none-the-less.

When I rebuilt the transfer case on my FJ62 mine looked like that too.

I had no problem getting it from the dealer. Seems to me it was somewhere around $50 IIRC, but don't trust my memory!

I replaced it and the bearings that ride on it.
