Hey all, a few days ago my 40 was parked on a relatively steep incline with the front of the car pointed down the incline. When I left my friends house it was night time so I did not see a leak however my friend pointed out the next day there was a thick gear oil leak where I was parked. I originally thought it was the rear diff but that is not the case. I believe the transmission is leaking, has anyone else had a similar issue? I suspect most if not all of the fluid drained out, the drain plug still leaks a drop or so a day. Which seal do you think blew? Thanks

There are many places the transmission or transfer case can leak. Pull the skid plate and look for where the leak is coming from. If it only leaks with the front end facing downhill I'm going to guess the input shaft seal on the tranny, or the front flange seal on the xfer case.

Sometimes a very slow leak will accumulate in a cover or skid plate. It will sit there until you move or park on an extreme or unusual angle and then it will dump all off that accumulated oil all at once. You start by checking all of your levels and cleaning everything off. Then you can look for the source of your leak.

You would or at least should notice if several quarts of gearoil has leaked.
It would be everywhere including the rear glass.
