Well guys- I finally got the cruiser up and running again. Did a full carb rebuild and changed the fuel filter (very dirty). It's running well now. I've got it idling high right now (appx 1000-1100) as it seems to run a bit smoother at this speed. Anyway, on to my tranny question.
Upon shifting into reverse I quite often have to grind it in. There still seems to be something spinning in there even when I have the clutch fully depressed. What is causing this? It does not happen all of the time. However, more and more often. Thanks:beer:

When you depress the clutch, let the tranny stop spinning for approximately 5-10 seconds. Then put it into gear and go!

I had the same issue. I'm not sure that it's a problem but just a part of the design.

this happens in almost all the manual cars that i own. granted they're all a bit on the older side too but, they're all mechanically solid.

my quick fix, and now it's just habitual as i do it in cars that do not have the reverse grinding problem, is this.

shift it into first, then second, then reverse. works every time, not even a peck out of the tranny. sounds like a pain but, doesn't bother me at all i don't even notice i'm doing it. i don't know why it works, i'd assume it's just assuring everythings lined up and ready to go before jabbing into reverse.

i make my friends do this in all their cars too after hearing them force them constantly into reverse, i get much praise for this advise :)
