I bought a 24v to 12v trailer light converter from swiss army vehicles for $130 and saved a pile of time. Only thing is it doesn't combine your signal lights and your brake lights so you have to use another easy to find ($20) converter for that....to whom it may concern.

The ones that I've built out of relays, as discussed in the FAQ, and using the 12V system from my Solar Converter has worked great so far. Total materials including the 4-pin plug was about $60 CAD, and it combines the turn and brake signals and provides 12V for trailer lights.

$130 is a lot less money than what the local Mog dealer wanted for a military 24-12V trailer light logic circuit. Good find.

I think Stone is a humble guy... here's a link to his great thread on 24v-12v trailer light solutions (also in the FAQ).

I'm currently implementing Stone's suggestions for the 24v converter/Hella relay etc. to run my stereo (and other 12v accessories in the future...). Thanks Stone--learned a lot from you re: 24v electricals.

I did the 24 12 trailer plug thing as well with a few relays, pretty simple, tho definately one of those fiddley little projects that makes you ask ," now, who was it that said 24 volts is anything but a pain in the ass? "

I'll have to do it again one of these days for my 70, and I'll do it the same way for sure.
cheers,

Hey Colin....am looking for the same....where did you find brake signal controller? thx
Any shop that builds trailors or installs hitches carries them around here cause 'jap vehicles usually have seperate signal/brake lights but trailers don't. Stone's solution looks like it would work awesome but i'm soooo lazy.

I know its a long way away but try REDARC in Australia. They have a comprehensive range of stuff for truck 24V systems which Im using a couple of and am most impressed.

I've spoken with the guys at Redarc on the phone before...and they are super helpful and friendly. From what I've been hearing...quality products as well.
