I do a lot of off road towing and saw that the Australian 200 Series Accessory Catalog has a Toyota OEM Trailer Check Switch that allows activation of the backup camera in any gear. Before I order it, has anyone installed one of these in a USA Spec 200?

I tow a lot too and this would be welcomed. SUbd to see what you find out

Brian over on T4R.org makes a backup camera override harness for 5th Gen 4Runners. Maybe contact him to see if he has fiddled with making one for the 200?

I had one in my 4Runner, and it was easy to install and worked great. Just plug and play behind the head unit, plus add a switch. Maybe that's not quite as easy with the four cameras on the 200.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why would you want to activate your backup camera while towing? Is it to see if your hitch is going to bottom out?

Yes. Also to monitor the trailer while driving on long high speed stretches of washboarded gravel, slogging through mud and snow, etc. I never would have thought about it until I took a long drive across Australia last year. The LC I rented had the switch as standard and it proved very helpful on more than a few occasions

I actually contacted him over a year ago, when I first heard of this product. Sent him all the wiring diagrams, we looked it over, and it is significantly different. It's more than just a jumper. He backed off, worried that anything he might build to test it might fry something, which would be $$$.

Good to know! Thanks for the update, as I was thinking of looking into this option once my LC arrives.
