Knee deep in hookers and gin
So the 5th wheel I bought is too short. The dude said it had a 26' bed and it has a 20' bed and a 6' deck. It was still a good deal so I bought it.

Today I bought steel to strengthen and extend the bed. I'm relocating the axles to sit under the pig. That's easy.

The question is how long?

I have a 8' camper and a 14' rig. I'd like to be able to open the door on the camper without having the pig get in the way. so 24' minimum.

A couple feet more and I might be able to squeeze the bike between the pig and the camper.

A couple of feet more and I could load the bike and the pig and still open the door.

A couple of feet more and I could load both bikes and the pig. Now I'm getting a bit past the tow rating on the Tundra. 5.5K of pig, 1.5K of bikes and 2.5K of camper and the trailer would be more than the 10.2K tow rating.

and so on until I have a 32' rig like Woodys and I can't fit anywhere. Well, not that much because I bought a 20' stick of channel so 30' is max without buying another 20'.

What says the collective wisdom of Tony's loyal subjects?

Go 30'

I think fitting at least 1 bike could be a big advantage. Obviously you would like to have it for PYS, but I see more PYS style trips in my future. I bet you would be more excited about going to black hills, CO, Moab, TX, OK, AL, AR, TN, etc., if you could bring the bike.

As far as fitting 2 of those bikes goes...Is Bonnifer interested in coming out for more of our shenanigans? At 30 ft I bet you could fit both bikes, but maybe wont be able to get into the camper, at least not easily. But for how rare that might be the case it might be fine.

I think 30ft is a good #. You can always add some more.

How often will the bike/ bikes be traveling with the pig?
I'm not sure using both would happen often enough to warrant the extra length to the trailer.
I would leave room to enter camper with everything loaded though.

Just keep a ladder on the outside of the camper so you can climb in through the window and then you don't have to worry about the door.

Don't worry about the weight cuz I know where u can get a screaming deal on cherry '04 dodge wit a cummins.

So is the original structure of the trailer right up to the fifth wheel, engineered to withstand all of that extra weight? Would make me nervous without some shoring up.

a 26' travel trailer is gonna weigh pretty close to 10K, I think.

and it's getting shored up. I don't know how to underbuild.

edit - GVW on a 26 is about 8600#

think I should go triple axle?

I'm now thinking 30' with a 30" dovetail.

If you're going triple, might as well go quad and articulate it... With Lambo doors...

Once again, your witty reply escapes me....

Are you a teenager & im way outta touch?

Are you an old codger & im way too young to get it?

Is this code?

Am I just a child who wonders into the middle of it?

Please help me to accept & enjoy your presence

Gum.....I say build it 30' & rock it with a 30" dove tail

You know how to do it

It's not any worse than I was towing. Some stuff with a bigger, more stable trailer and with a 5th wheel instead of a rear hitch ball.

well, it's 850# more motorcycle and a couple of hundred more pounds of trailer.

It would be a lot for a 1/2 ton 10 years ago. The Tundra is a built for towin' mofo. Don't you watch the commercials?

27' with a 30" dovetail puts about 6' between the camper and the pig - enough for a 6x6 easy-up.

I was. 5K capacity and working trailer brakes.

They actually look better than the ones in the pic above.
