Hi all.....I was careful to plan this trip around other events. Jose from the AZ Hummer Club (and myself) selected May 5th for this date. We expect H1's, H2's, and H3's for this trip and they are excited to see our Cruisers too. This should make for a really fun trip! I think most of us will be surprised how differently these vehicles climb the same obstacle!

***I'd like send a "special" invite out to the CSC's members for this trip. I think the CSC has a great mix of "unique" Cruisers and driving styles that will make for some added excitement on this type of run. I hope to see several of you here at this trip!*** I'll be bringing the LX450 so I can try to back up the Step. :grinpimp: :D

Here's the details:

"ShottsCruisers" and I have been making plans on a run before it gets too hot, here are the details.

Come on out and join us for one of Arizona's best 4WD trails...The Gap (near
Tucson). Bring your Hummer and run with the Toyota Land Cruiser folks. See
how different rigs perform on various obstacles. The Gap has it all!
Grades, off-camber, twisties, shelf roads, ledges, and.....The Step, one of
Arizona's harder obstacles. We'll run the Gap from Oracle to Catalina so
those who are interested can go "up" the Step. Check out the trip details:

When: Saturday, May 5th (Cinco De Mayo and my Birthday!)

Meeting place: Circle K in the Town of Oracle. Directions: From Oracle Jct
(southeast of Florence)....head north up AZ77. Turn right at the Business
District sign in Oracle and go about 1/2 mile to the Circle K (north side of
the road). John Shotts can be reached on his cell phone at 520-975-1723 in
case you need assistance.

Meeting Time: 9:00 AM (giving Phoenix folks time to travel)

Pull-out Time: 9:15 AM

Trip Leaders: Jose (Hummer) and John Shotts (Land Cruisers)

Trail Difficulty: Mostly a 3.0 with some 3.5 sections and one 4.0 obstacle
(optional). Any stock Hummer can complete this trail.

Brush Report: Some, in a few places. If needed we can take a few minutes
and clip.

Trip Duration: 5-6 hours (average)

If you intend to come please post up so we can keep a head count for the
trip. If the group gets too large we'll have to limit the size. Speaking
of Cinco De Mayo, Catalina has a favorite Mexican food restaurant for those
who want some grub before heading home to Phoenix. Jose

So I take it you were able to resolve your accusations against this club in a satisfactory enough manner that now allows you to plan a run with them?

Good to see some harmony. I may actually come down for this one.

No, your comments in the thread that MadBaggins (Alvin I think?) deleted about wheeling in Sedona.

You said something to the effect that this Hummer club had gone off trail and created a bypass in the Sedona area which lead to a partial trail closure. I said I doubted it was Jose's club (and Don, DRdoor backed up my comments) since it was new and perhaps you were thinking of AZHOG (Arizona Hummer Owners Group) which is an older club in AZ....I made it very clear that I wasn't saying AZHOG did what you mentioned...just that they were in existance during the 2 plus years ago you said this event happened. I also asked for you to post a link to any article referencing the facts as you said something about the Forest Service closing said trail. It must've been deleted before you replied.

Clear as mud?

OHHH.....the HUMMER Club accusations? Gotcha. That thread fizzled out. I never heard back. I was asking for confirmation about what the Coco Forest told me was the reason (not accusing...though some could take them that way). In any event I know it was not the AZ Hummer Club. I heard it was the national club....but still do not know.

My mistake then...the way I read what you wrote, it sounded like you were saying this club had done the damage. I was just pointing out that with what you recently went through on the Coke Ovens trail with AZVJC, you of all people should realize we should wait to make such accusations until we have proof.

My apologies.

Nope. I didn't see them. I didn't acuse them. The Coco Forest and Pink Jeeps said (told me personally) the Hummers bushwacked. They got down the Pipeline Hills and couldn't get back up.

I would like to attend your run. I enjoyed watching the differences between different types of rigs running Broken Arrow and Greasy Spoon. It definitely was a treat to be right behind the H1 going through Broken Arrow, with the pink jeep dude telling him he wouldnt make it. He made it look easy.

I've never seen a H2 or an H3 off the pavement, and would love to go....but I gotta work that weekend. And since I am already taking a week off for the Baja 500, and 3 1/2 weeks off in July for the Trans-Am trail.....I'm thinking I won't get that weekend off.

Moab - what more can I say:D

if you are cool with a FJ cruiser joining you I would like to be there.
it would be a nice chance to say hi to the Hummer guys I met in sedona.
enjoy

Sounds like fun. I don't know if I am officially in the club, but I would like to see about making it on this run. I live in NW Tucson and drive a green '97 FZJ80 on a J lift and 33s.

80 vs 100 :D

Oh my god....none of that! :D

Actually, Rod is coming and bringing his 100. He built it then rebuilt some things to my 100's spec. He doesn't care about pinstriping so he'll be the first 100 known to run the whole Gap. Knowing Rod he'll attempt the Step. With the 100's long overhangs it'll be interesting to see if he can climb it. ????

OH.....my guess?

Loaded as his and mine are....he won't make it. Too much dragging on the rear bumper.

Built as I will my next one...frame cut...no problem.

I won't put money though on Rod NOT making it.
