Trail Ride 8/23-25/2019 East TN

Coming off the success of the Georgia trip last month, we will now attack the eastern Tennessee mountains. Leave Friday 8/23, head north, avoid Atlanta, destination TBD but somewhere in the vicinity of Tellico Plains, Murphy, Tail of the Dragon, etc. Come back Sunday 8/25.

I rode across the old Tellico wheeling area the other month from Tellico Plains and over to Murphy, NC.
There are still a handful of first-come-first-served camp spots maintained by the Cherokee Nat. Forrest Service. All are easily able to hold half a dozen rigs too. “State Line” is a big one and even has bathrooms like you would see at Nat. Parks.
We don’t have to go across old trail 1, but boy was it Nostalgic for me. I wore Tellico out there for close to a decade and honestly made friendships there that last to this day. Some of the best people I’ve ever met are attributed to that piece of land.
I’m looking forward to this trip! Can’t wait to sleep in the back of the hunnerd too!

Few more and last one is from Tail of the Dragon. There’s 5 or 6 guys that sit out there all day and take pics of all the cars/bikes going by and you can buy them on their website.

Do you guys want to work our way East to West like the GA Traverse trip or do West to East? I think it would be cool to camp at Hurricane Creek one night (which is 10 miles from the TN/NC border off I-40).

We have come up with the first leg to get us through Friday. Meet at McDonald's in Trussville at 11:00am 8/23. Proceed up through Chattanooga and Knoxville, destination Hurricane Creek. Camp there, get up Saturday, head West.

I'll see what Ouray throws at us, but I think Jess and I would be in for this. Could probably talk a buddy in NC into making the trip over to Hurricane as well.

I know ONSC does about 3-4 rides to Hurricane Creek a year and they have a bunch of people go. I think we keep it to our groups.

I am most likely in. Will know in a day or 2. Just lifted my 60 (zjohnsonua did most of the work). Tires are a bit snug. Going to try them out behind the house to make sure no fender damage will occur...

Might wanna check them hose clamps, @Land Speeder sometimes forgets to tighten them all...

Mistakes were made ..but they are all nice and tight now. No more leaky.

I have the Gaia gps tracks. I'll send them to you when I get back home tomorrow.

Here's a Gaia screenshot of the tracks I have in mind for this trip. The little green circle in the top right corner is Hurricane Creek. We can start there, then work our way down through Great Smokey Mtn NP, Tail of the Dragon, Cherokee NF, Nantahala NF, past Ocoee River and end up in Gainesville, GA near Lake Lanier. But, I'm open to whatever and any suggestions/changes.
