TR1 Badging on an 06 Taco? (1 Viewer)

A buddy just bought an '06 Tacoma 4x4 manual 6 speed with a 6 cylinder engine. Extended cab with alloy rims.
I have not seen it or pictures but he says it is badged with TR1 - Off Road Trail Edition.

I have not heard of that badging before. Anyone else? @cruiserdan if nobody else?

I don't doubt him he is a car guy. He says the badging appears to be under the clear coat.

The stickers are on top of the paint so I figure it could be dealer applied.

If I were to guess, it was a dealer installed option package on a normal Tacoma to emulate the TRD package and pad their profit margin.

looks dealer installed, those rims don't look like any Toyota rims that ive ever seen. probably just a dress up package from the dealer

It has a scoop too, so it isn’t just your average access cab with a decal on it.

Another possibility is that it was a model only available through Southeast Toyota Distributors and not Toyota Motor Sales, USA.
