thanks to some people here smarter than me, i may have a TPS issue.

for those that have replaced the TPS, do they typically come with the gap preset?

a quick search shows this is a $45 part, and is probably a 15 minute job. it's a 40 year old vehicle so for that price there's really no reason to stick with a part that was probably installed in 1984.

unless i have to set the gap and it requires something beyond basic skill.

thanks

The "gap" you speak of is set by rotating it within the slots of the screws that retain it - if you take it off it will need to be reset regardless if you replace it. No big deal, I've just always put a meter on it and set it to just after the throttle begins to open and never had an issue.

Is it bad? Many times unless you can get a new OEM part, whatever 40 year old part you have is likely better than a parts-store replacement...

thanks for the info! i haven't had a chance to eyeball it, 'gap' was probably the wrong terminology ha.

I will be tackling the same thing when the I thaw out from the weather. Meanwhile, below is a good thread regarding the TPC gap, etc.
Good Luck!
