TMPS woes for me, need help. Had one sensor going out so I bought a complete set of Denso's from Rock Auto for a 2015 LC, part #Denso 5500106. Took them to Discount Tire and they installed them but were unable to sync up w/ LC. Their suggestion was to buy a new set directly from them or go somewhere else. I figured, no problem, I have Techstream and will just change codes at home. Get home in about 15min (5 miles) and hook up TS only to see that the new codes are listed correctly in TS but there are no readings from the new sensors, WTF? Is there something else I need to do to get these sensors working? Tried resetting the TPMS button to no effect. This shouldn't be so hard...

You may need to “awake” the new sensors. There is a process of rapidly deflating the tire and then inflating it back up that Denso says may need to be performed with their new sensors. I have never needed the do this when swapping wheels/tires but is something they advise. I use Carista to program my TPMS and it works flawlessly. The only issue I have encountered was user induced when I kept putting in the wrong TMPS ID code.
This. There is a bright red tag on each new sensor saying it’s necessary. Any time I haven’t done it, problems. Do the process, they work.

I’d get a valve core tool then put a jack under each corner while you let all pressure out, then reinflate. They should work after that.

Just swapped to my winters. My Autel tool writes the new sensors to ECU right away, but then I still seem to need to drive for 3-5 minutes or so before they come up on the screen and the light goes away. The tool activates the TPMS to wake them up. 2020 HE.

I had a light from a low pressure on the summer set spare just prior to the swap/ that might have delayed them coming up on the info display.

There was a part number split in 2015 and some 2015s use the older 2014 part numbers for the sensors. You gotta read a part number off one of the old sensors when replacing, dont trust the parts books.

Been there done that got the T-Shirt.
Well my old sensors have been disposed of by Discount so can't check them. I am guessing the part number split is my issue as I tried to wake them up by inflate/deflate to no avail. Will return them to Rock Auto and Discount says they can install thier generric ones and guarantee they will work for $60 each, guess I will just have to go that route.

I personally would buy one of the other denso part numbers and be sure it works before letting discount install their aftermarket stuff. They don’t even compare in terms of longevity and dependability.

The tool activates the TPMS to wake them up.

Just wanted to clarify for others the tool can activate some aftermarket sensors but not factory Toyota or the Pacific industry/denso sensors provided to Toyota.

Does someone have a sensor part number where the sensor or the box actually has the Sensor HEX ID printed and available without having to have a special tool to read it? I have Techstream so I can input sensor ID's but many of the sensors don't have the HEX ID printed on the sensor or on the box and require a Autel or similar device to capture the ID for inputting into Techstream. The 2008 LC doesn't have the ability to relearn and I need to replace sensors but want to make sure I purchase one with the device ID readily available to enter into Techstream.

Thanks.

The OEM and OEM supplier (Denso/Pacific) parts have the code on the sensor. If you purchase these online, make sure they come from a reputable source. If you eBay shop for cheapest available, you will most likely end up with fakes.

I've read in a few places where people said the markings on the outside weren't the device ID (even on Denso) so I wanted to be sure with a part number that's know to work. Thanks.

So, I ended up with a set of fakes. The sensors worked, but the codes did not match the printed on codes. The one non fake I ended up with, the codes matched.

I have installed ten PI/Denso transmitters by this point and all matched the code on the body. First batch of five was from Amazon, before fakes were as much of a problem, last batch was from rock auto.

So when I bought my LC, the tmps wasn't working at all. Since then I have replaced the wheels and tires, and bought some DENSO 5500106 from rock auto. When I first installed the wheels I tried the manual reset to no avail. I just now got a Autel maxiTMPS TS501 because I didn't want to mess around with it anymore.

I just read all the sensors with the autel and im around 32psi in all 5. I programed the sensors into the LC through the autel and still have the light on, solid, not flashing. I just checked techstream and the sensor ID codes are the same but it's not reading pressure. Any ideas?

What year LC? (If you put it in your sig it helps in the future)

When you say "sensor ID codes are the same" you mean the listed codes are the same as what you programmed and the autel reader is listing them as? Or did you mean "same" as in same as the old codes, suggesting the programming process didn't work?

To me it looks like they are the wrong sensors, which is easy to do with certain years.

It’s a 2008. Well I didn’t go into tech stream first, same as in the data read by Autel on the 5 sensors is the same as what tech stream is reading now.

What I was trying to do was to program the sensor IDs that were on the new sensors into the car, not clone the old IDs.

Unfortunately you got the wrong sensors. Pretty sure your 2008 needs the Denso/Pacific Industry 550-0103 like my 2013.

Well I guess its staying broken forever then lol
I'd double check the numbers before writing it off. I do know it's confusing.. Seem to remember it all being the same from 2008-2013, then a couple changes in 2014 and 15. But it's all infrequent enough I can't get it fully memorized.

Why would only one model work? Cant you use any sensor as long as you can program it, or is it now too late to clone it?

There are a couple different frequencies that sensors use. The 200 switched frequencies at some point. Programmable/Clonable aftermarket sensors usually work on both bands, so will work with most vehicles. The OEM ones are much less “universal”.

And even in a given frequency there can be different underlying communication protocols. It could be as simple as the sensor ID range values changed.

Either way @Valgrind , Densos don't appear to be fixable if you get the wrong ones. Clones gain compatibility at the expense of overall quality.

Yup, you bought the wrong sensors.

FYI, Rock Auto indicates that DENS 5500103 ( not 5500106) are the correct sensors for a 2008 LC200:
