For the FJ/FZJ air filter catch can. Does anyone have a part number of source for the little rubber drain door ? Circled below.

Thanks for quick answer.

@bubfuji : You might could find a replacement can from a parted out vehicle, or use anything to cover the small hole ie: stick something to the bottom of the can (rubber sheet, electricians rubber/butyl tape, etc).

Seems like the little rubber flap acts like a one-way valve, will allow (over) pressure out but won't allow suction (vacuum) to pull anything in (air/water)??

wait, there's a rubber piece under my tuna can? i learned something new today.

The thin rubber flap/valve of the dirt collection can ("tuna" can) may fall or get knocked off during handling/cleaning due to deterioration of the tiny rubber nipples that secure it in place.

FWIW: IME there's often small patch of rust on the inside bottom of the tuna can likely from trapped water/condensation. So if the hole was meant to allow water out it doesn't work very well but (IMO) the purpose of the flap may be to prevent air/water/debris from getting sucked into the air filter housing via that small hole on the bottom of the tuna can. ie: keep the dirt in the can so it, or water while fording a river, doesn't get sucked back up into the filter?? See photos below:

Interior of a Dust Cap Assy ("Tuna" can) showing the rubber posts/nipples that attach it to the can. Note the rust, same as in a few other Tuna cans I've cleaned out. Maybe someone from a dry environment can check their Tuna can to see if it has any rust??

This is the same Tuna can (above) as I found it (after digging into the dirt to see how deep the layer was).

The PO's (or Service techs) likely never removed or cleaned it (or even knew it was there):

this is fascinating info, thx for that. Logic is telling me that there is a cyclonic force that makes the "heavies" drop out and collect into the tuna can. So, the tuna can itself doesn't experience a vacuum condition inside it. Or am I on a wrong tangent here? :deadhorse:

The system IMHO is designed as a type of cyclonic dust collector. Heavier particles of dust/debris get spun outward to the inside wall of the Air Cleaner Assembly (big can) and down through the slit hole at the bottom into the Dust Cap Assembly (Tuna can) below. IMO that helps to keep the air filter cleaner/longer as some (?most) of the larger dust/dirt/debris is caught/collected by the Tuna can resulting in less dirt clogging up the filter.

If the small rubber flap (which appears to act like a one-way valve) is missing from the bottom of the tuna can it seems that air (from engine vacuum) could then get sucked in via that small hole which might then decrease the effectiveness of the dust collection system (less dust going into the can)??

Any excess air (coming in via the small hole in the bottom of the tuna can) would still be metered so it seems like the only downside from a missing flap is the air filter gets dirtier quicker (or, if fording deep water it might allow water to get sucked into the Air Cleaner Assembly)??
