Hey All,

I have attached a picture of the issue and error codes I am seeing in my Toyota Land Cruiser 1997 with 214,000 miles on it. Overall the truck seems to be in decent shape but I keep noticing this white smoke with a bit of smell, oil smell! I have checked the coolant water the oil everything thing seems to be all ok. As soon as the engine warms up, it goes away. Water drips! I am not sure if this is normal or not, but I can tell from the smell it could something may need attention and repair. Anyone expert her can tell? Thank you very much for your time!

Valve leaking stem seals will typically produce the cold start up smoke. Add some Lucas and see if it helps.

Lean code can be from vacuum leak.

Egr code can be from that that leaking vacuum control line.

Hi there,

Thank you very much for your reply. Your reply is very helpful. Were you refering to these valve gasket by the way?

Since your engine has 214k miles racked up,unless you know if the head gasket was swapped out either as PM or failure, then your valve stem oil seals will be rock hard and beyond the point of effective sealing. If you are burning serious oil then the exhaust will have a blue tint and won't disapate as quick as white smoke (Steam ) from the cooling system.
If you are not losing coolant then it could be just condensation (same as seeing your breath on a cold morning).
Have you measured how much oil you are losing?

Incorrect. Those seals will cause vacuum loss, not oil burning.

The seals that may be leaking are under the valve cover on the engine valve stems.. Google engine valve stems seals and that will clear up the confusion..

I probably wouldn't worry about a little smoke like that at startup, especially since it clears up. And water is one of the byproducts of hydrocarbon combustion, so it isn't unusual to see water dripping out of an exhaust.

But I would address the root cause of those codes...
