Dimensions A, B, C, and D changed in '77 on the FJ40s. That was the first year the hardtop side windows had the kick-out vents. The '76 and earlier roll bars had a larger radius - A and D smaller and B and C larger. The radius tube would interfere with the latch on the vent window, so Toyota made the radius smaller. I'm not familiar with the BJ42 so I'm not sure what your hardtop side windows look like.

I'll take some measurements later this afternoon of my '77 roll bar.

I planned to do one by myself too, but after not so succesful pipe bending I bought ready one from Megastore4x4.pt Reasonable price with shipping. It’s very much which I wanted.

These are from my '77 FJ40 roll bar, D would be longer if the BJ42 hardtop is longer.

A = 21"
B = 7"
C = 7"
D = 19"
E = 9-1/2"
F = 11"

The outside-to-outside width of the main cross bar is 59".

Hi, sorry to bring back this post. I bought a '77 BJ40 a couple months ago, it has an awfull jeep style bar installed, and I want to transform it into somthing kind the original one. Could you post some pics of the mounting point of the bar, and some reference distances?

Thanks in advance and regards from Uruguay!

Fernando.

I'll try to put something together tomorrow, along with photos. My '76 doesn't currently have the roll bar installed, so the photos of the mounting locations should be pretty clear.
