It seems imperative to have a code tester to get the error codes.

Where can I get on and the other items required?

Second question, I haven't seen my car for months since I moved in January and was only recently reunited with it following painting required from bad shipping practices. I noticed yesterday that the bottom 10% of the front and rear doors are rough and pebbled in the same way as the rocker panels. This has been done intentionally in that all the edges are straight like the area had been masked off and seems to be rock chip protection – I just don't remember it that way.

I have to say, I may be having a senior moment, but I don't remember the bottom of the doors being pebbled. Can some one straighten me out?

Thanks

My 93 does not have chip protection on the doors, only the rockers. I do not think yours should either. Perhaps that was added as part of the re-finish?

Thanks. I think you are right and I haven't lost all of my mind. That will be sorted.

What about the tester?

Thanks

The bottom of the doors on my 95 have the same coating and I'm pretty sure it's original. Perhaps they changed it in 95?

As for the tester, I run this one www.obd-2.com If you already have a laptop, it's a good option. In addition to pulling and reseting codes, you can monitor all the obd2 parameters while driving. It also saves the data to a file that you can review and keep for reference. It will run on most any laptop with Windows (even 3.1) and at least a 386 processor.

If you want to see what the output looks like, send me your e-mail and I'll send you a copy of one of the files.

My green '96 also has the pebbled rocker panels, but the doors are normally painted. Got any pics? I can't recall seeing any 'Cruisers with pebbled doors...

I have a 96 on the rack for some service work and the first 2.75 inches of the door above the rocker panel is pebbled. Both sides of the truck. Maybe a option? Good question for C-Dan to look up. later robbie

... and another data point: My 97 40th also has the bottom couple of inches pebbled on all four doors.

Well then I guess I'll just go with it.

Can anyone tell me the part number for the Toyota Code tester? I don't have a laptop (thanks though Bob) but would like to pull the codes.

Thanks everyone.

Well, I stand corrected...I went and checked my doors a little closer, and I DO have the pebbled texture a couple of inches up the bottom of the door.

I guess I just never really paid that much attention though I've washed the truck heaps of times myself by hand, I'd swear the doors were smooth and the rockers rough.

I bought a code puller/clearer(?) at harbor freight for around $45.00.
