What about the toyota TSB that states both red and pink are interchangeable? Personally I'd stick with known spec, but they did publish that doc which states you can mix them.

Gaijin, as I've posted here before, both the local Toyota and Lexus/Toyota service managers in the Boise area have advised me that the pre-mixed Toyota coolant is compatible with and can be used on vehicles requiring the concentrate. That said, neither stock the older coolant.

Correct? Or am I up crap creek without a paddle here?

I don't know what the details of the differences are between the old Red concentrated coolant and the new Pink Super Long Life ready to use coolant and why the are or are not compatible.

However, I do know the following:

1. My Owner's Manual says to use the pink SLLC:

Only use “Toyota Super Long Life Coolant” or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite, and non-borate coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology. “Toyota Super Long Life Coolant” is a mixture of 50% coolant and 50% deionized water. (Enabled: -31F [-35C])

Can anyone provide information that supports the requirement that the Red coolant is a "similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite, and non-borate coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology" as specified in the manual?

2. The red concentrated coolant does not say anything like "Concentrated Super Long Life Coolant" on the jug - it just says "Long Life". Old vs. new pics:

3. I know my 2013 came with "Factory Filled Pink" coolant, not Red.

Admittedly it's largely circumstantial, but it seems obvious choice to me - there is absolutely no reason for me to use the Red LL coolant. So, unless someone can show me some Toyota TSB (as @blatant said is extant), or other compelling evidence other than what a Parts Counter guy said, to prove that Red and Pink can be used interchangeably, I'll use the pink SLLC and eschew the use of the red LL coolant.

As far as what you and others choose to do with your older Toyota vehicles that came factory filled with the Red LL coolant, I don't know what the backward compatibility of the Pink would be in that situation. I don't have my 40, 80 or 100 anymore so I have no skin in that game. But as far forward compatibility of the Red into a newer vehicle that came with the Pink is concerned, it just seems logical to stick with the pink.

Thoughts?
 
Here it is. These coolant threads bubble up every few years. Personally I wouldn't mix, but Toyota claims you can.
