Recently I moved my Extended Cab 45 (thread name: 45 with a difference") project one side for a project I would like to build first. The reason for this is that I want a 4 seater Toy for myself, the wife and kids to enjoy on hot summer days.. Something that I can learn the kids to drive with, and yet have a capable rig for myself to play with.

So here goes..
FJ62 chassis with diffs and H55 box/transfer combo.
FJ45 tub that I will cut and extend to fit 4 seats and space for a cooler.
Toyota/Lexus 1UZ VVTi Engine.
SOA and SR conversions to be done.
Rear Land Cruiser FJ79 59" leaf springs to be fitted at the rear.
35" Tires.
Decent roll cage with a soft top..
Wheel base roughly 100".

Will post pics soon..

My pile of junk. Fooled around a bit and put a 45 Tub on top of the 62's chassis..

I was going to be sad about you cutting up that 45 tub. Then I saw your in S. Africa, I guess they're pretty common out there. I want an Fj 45 pick up sooooo bad, someday.

Actually, good clean45/47's are also becoming scarce here. But yes, they are way more easy to get than 40/42's.

Did a bit of work on my rig recently.. Started with the seats..

Yes, I want decent suspension seats. Especially with this being an open top, I want all the support I can get from the seats.
Another update, I got the adaptor plate and flywheel for the 1UZ VVTi / H55f combo, so I can mate them together.
So as soon as I'm finished with my Cobra(either this afternoon or tommorrow) I can get the 62's chassis into the workshop, and then the real work can start..;)

Where do you find the adapter plate?

Rusty, heres a guy in Johannesburg that fits these 1Uz's into almost anything with wheels. He designed and made it for me. I'm using the bellhousing from a 2h, that way my flywheel is a bit bigger and I can use a bigger clutch aswell..

Mutley, as much as I would love to beleive you, it's a 1UZ-FE VVTi engine and not a 4.7. The VVTi is the upgraded motor from the normal 1UZ. Have been on a wild goose chase on this same subject a while ago when some one told me it's a 4.3 3UZ. Did a bit of homework on it, but unfortunately it's jus a 4.0L..

Of course there wouldn't be a N American source for something as usefull as that.
Does your guy do modified ECU's and stand alone wiring harnesses as well?
<daydream>The 1UZ-FE would be a great engine swap in an FJ60.</daydream>

I did a little research on the 1UZ-FE VVTi. From what I read it was developed as a racing engine and later used in the '89 LS400 production cars. It must be remarkably similar to the 2UZ-FE since some the guys in the Tundra forums recommend using the 1UZ rods in the 2UZ engine as an upgrade.

Rusty, I just think that there's not really a demand in N America for the 1UZ modification, as you guys have access to fit just about any SBC you want. Think it's much easier and faster for you. I would rather fit a newer generation SBC to the hybrid, but it's just a pain with the wiring, and it's a rather expensive modification. The 1UZ is a cheap mod for us to do.

As for the wiring on the VVTi, we use a system called 'Spitronics' wich works rather well..

The SBC mod isn't cheap here either, between the engine, ECU and the harness you start talking real money.

They have some cool stuff--> Spitronics - Homepage

Came across these babies @ Summitracing. Unfortunately they are for the 4.7 2UZ. Does any one pehaps know if the headers on the 4.0, 4.3 and 4.7 are interchangeable?

Not much happening with my build @ the moment. Still trying to finish the little details on my Cobra, trying to finish it so I can put all my attention to 'ToyLex'.
Also busy prepping for a wheeling trip in 3 weeks time to Lesotho, to do a trail called 'Baboons Pass'. Google/Youtube it(couple of hooligans on youtube though). Think it's similar to us as what you guys have Rubicon to you.

Although I haven't worked on 'ToyLex' lately, I have ordered and received a parcel from Marlin Crawler consisting of 4.56 ring/pinion sets, diff set up kits, hub rebuild kit, rear diff rebuild kit. Also waiting for a detroit locker from Marlin.
