Gotta say I'm not crazy about the Detroit lockers I have in my FJ60. It might not be so bad down there since you don't have to deal with icy roads though. With the V8 a Detroit is going to wake you up when it unloads on dry pavement.

Having used both I'd say go with an ARB if you can fit it in the budget.

I have an ARB also. Would probably fit the Detriot rear and ARB front..

After about a year and a half my Cobra is finished and now I can put all my attention to my Cruisers..

That is sweeeet!! Is that a retro build or did you restore a genuine Cobra? Doesn't really matter though as good as that looks.

Don

Thanks for the kind words on the Cobra guys. It's a kit car, not original. Don't think original Cobra's excist here in SA.
Rusty, unfortunately not. We are closing bussiness on the 14th Dec for the summer holidays and we are rather busy @ work finishing the last work in time.. But please don't lose faith in me, will put in some serious effort on 'ToyLex' beginning of January. I need to have it finished by mid April, for a 4x4 trip/fest we are doing.

Yeah, I catch what you are saying. But I'll be out of town for 2 weeks during the holiday..

Only a few more days to go to first week in Jan, enjoying the holiday here at the sea, 30'C- 35'C temps on average... Then I can start working on 'ToyLex again. Added a new item to it's wishlist from Summit racing, ordered a decent set of JBA Headers for the 1UZ VVTi..

Thanks Killerpea. According to that thread of mine on Lextreme, the exhaust headers on the 1Uz, 2UZ 3Uz are interchangeable, so I ordered a set of pre 2004/5 (I Think) 2 UZ Tundra headers..

Did a bit of work. Mated the VVTi to the H55, and build some engine mounts..

Finished the chassis engine mounts and started the plasma cutter to remove any unwanted brackets and mounts.

For some stupid reason I never thought about making left and right fixed leaf chassis mounts, oh well, I guess S**t happens. Luckily this won't be build as a show queen.

I used threade bar to line the mounts up on the chassis and to get the centre I wanted:

Although I'm doing a SOA conv I'd like to keep the vehicle as low as possible, So I drilled the holes for the shackle bushes as high into the chassis as possible. Used a 59 mm hole saw and magnetic base drill. My Helper for the day, VUSI.
