I have read it is possible to adapt toy 3rds(80 front, V6 rear), Custom axle shafts, and toy birfs(am thinking bobby's new 4340/300m birfs) to the stock LR housings. What would be the max tire size without having to baby it?(disco weights almost as much as a 80, with a anemic 180hp V8) I know this is a relatively strong combo under a minitruck/fj40, but they dont weigh nearly as much as the disco

I've got 35's on there now, and probally wouldnt go over 37's until I get a new towrig/dd

Just trying to look at my options other than a dana 60 swap ($$$)

Thanks

Longs and 38's should be pretty good to go.

Why not just run the entire cruiser axle instead of mismatching parts?

I wouldn't have to fab all new suspension brackets, order new d-shafts, new wheels, ect... Every things else basically fits

Only non toyota parts would be housings and modified LR spindles

38's hmm...

With a new 3rd you probably would need new D-shafts (unless you have measured the face/flange distance and it is identical)

Wheels are cheap (and readuly available compared to Rover stuff)

Suspension brackets are super easy on a Lr. There is not much to them.

Plus you could cut and turn the knuckles for a reasonable caster.. LR knuckles are a PITA to adjust the caster on.

Actually, from what a couple Rover buddies tell me, swapping in Cruiser running gear is pretty common, but they do the entire axle and not just the guts. No clue on interchanability tho, but I'd agree that mixing-matching is a dangerous game when you need spare stuff....

I do agree on the spare parts issues, and am still debating on what to go with. fj80's axles seem to be a good option. relatively strong, almost the same wms-wms, and stock with disk brakes

What has been the ltire size limit on 80 axles? 38's?

I am pretty sure you can just redrill the toy pinion flange to fit the rover driveshafts though, atleast thats what I have heard/been told.(atleast for the front shaft/3rd)

Thanks for the opinions
