I'd be careful towing heavy rigs with the 100.

Tragic situation -hopefully no one was hurt. Appears the safety chains did their job though.

Objectively speaking, what is your point? It doesn't look like an aftermarket bumper on that 100 so was that something related to a trailer fail or human error ? Looks like a lot of extra weight upfront with spare motor, axles and parts.

Since this is a thread discussing towing with a Slee bumper- you post gives off the impression there is some link between the incident and the aftermarket bumper.

The rest of the story...

long story short one of the trailer tires blew out and made the trailer roll, we were running 60-65 on the freeway. There was no time to do anything but pucker up. I looked in the rear view and the trailer was perpendicular to the 100 and that's when I knew we were going over. Im not sure how many time the trailer rolled but when it did consequently it rolled my 100 over twice landing back on its wheels. Both trucks were totaled. We didn't have a single bump or scratch. The trailer tongue was torn off but the chains held.

My point was to be carful when towing vehicles with the 100. When people started posting pictures of using the 100 as a vehicle hauler it reminded me of this wreck. Even look at the pictures above are those loaded correct? Look at the tongue angles. Two picture look to have too much tongue weight and the other has hardly any. I own a slee bumper and I use it for towing my boat etc. It's a great bumper. My point is it's easy to overload your wagon tire blowout or not.

That's terrible to see - I bought my 40 from Roma years ago and shortly after he started this build. It was spectacular. What a shame...

I know this is an old thread but was wondering if anyone has pulled a decent size boat with the Slee bumper hitch? I think mine will be fine but I do get a lot of slack and movement in the 8" drop ball mount. My boat is a 20 foot G3 aluminum bass boat with a 200 HP outboard and dual axle trailer. The boat is 1500 pounds, motor is 500 pounds, and guessing the trailer is 1000 pounds. So 3000 pounds all together but the dual axle trailer takes a lot of weight off the tongue. Does anyone have a good suggestion for a good ball mount that doesn't move a lot? I have 295/75R16 tires and a 2.5" OME lift but after getting the bigger boat I don't think I need a full 8" drop now so would probably be better off with an adjustable ball mount.

Here's pics of my 100 and the boat I plan on pulling. I guess it sounded like I've pulled it but I have not pulled this boat with the 100 yet but I did pull my old boat that was a 17.5' with a single axle trailer. I've been using my DC Tacoma to pull the boat and it's a little too much boat for the Tacoma's 4.0 V6.

Nice truck and boat.

Yeah i tow a boat at around 4500 pounds all up, no probs on the rear bar, i have an adjustable heavy duty hitch so the boat trailer rides level, does rattle around a little due to not being a tight fit in receiver.

I haven't pulled the big boat yet ( I have a 06 DC Taco and a V8 4Runner so no need to really ) but I do pull my kayak trailer with my Slee bumper very often. When I get 8 or 9 kayaks on and all our gear, it's still not that heavy. I also just made 2 10' rod tubes that I've bolted to the trailer. You can't even feel the trailer back there.

I have a 20” Skeeter with a heavy Verado motor and normally full of 50 gallons of gas. Also I load he boat op with all sorts of camping stuff, generator, chain saw, tools etc....Never had an issue.

I did have a welder weld in some loops for the safety chains. However I just noticed that they are starting to rust grrr

Here is the boat connected to my old rig.

I've towed with mine a lot, and it's about 4500 lbs., when the horse is in back. I am very pleased with the 100 as a towing vehicle since I am not asking it to do more than 4500 lbs. I have not noticed any difference between towing with the stock bumper and with the Slee bumper.

Once I dialed in the airbag pressure and the drop of the hitch that made it ride dead level I was happy.

What do you guys do with the 7 pin connector with the Slee rear?
Ive been looking into this same thing - I currently have mine disconnected

Here are a few pics of potential placement

I’m also wondering how I’m going to hook up the safety chains???

Not the most helpful feedback - more of a “I have the same concern post” :flush:

I've towed a Wells Cargo 6x10, single-axle enclosed trailer that probably weighed somewhere between 3.5-4k several times in the mountains in Colorado with the Slee rear bumper without any problems.
