there is ALWAYS a reason why something is cheap...

Very true. In this case I'm suspecting it it may have less to do with the engine as it very well may be a piece.

You are paying a premium for the Excursion in the first place. If you dont need that back seat then get a pick-em-up truck. No reason to deal with a HUGE Suv unless you need the seats. Tolleson is like the pied piper. He can't go anywhere without 10 people working his AMEX so he uses it.

CT has a 7.3 Excursion, and it hauls the mail.

Find one. You don't want to be that guy that has to stop at every gas station to and from an event. Ask me how I know.
It only took Toyota 9yrs to get this right but 2016 has the 38 gallon tank and integrated brake controller.

I want one of those 1794 editions when they fall into the sub $30K range used.
Maybe 10 yrs from now. LoL

I passed on the gasser. Decided to wait til after the first of the year and look for a 4 door 7.3 or Cummins pickup. With house under construction not gonna be much time for building let alone towing to events, but I will be at crawl in something :)

if you want a gas truck SUV tow rig....8.1 3/4 ton suburban is the answer in my view. Has about a 36 gal tank, gets about 13 mpg empty on the hwy...will pull / tow whatever but drinks gas.... 6.0 engine in similar vehicle gets about 1 to 2 mpg better. I think the 8.1 was in 3/4 ton suburbans until around 2005 or so. I had one....it had all the crap, was a nice truck, no issues...cold a/c and never got hot no matter what...had the auto-ride or auto level feature...which worked, but shocks $$ to replace. I would buy another one without hesitation....I just needed a pickup over an SUV. I think Yukon XL was same truck... certain year model GM 3/4 ton pickups had 8.1 also... You'll pay a premium on a 7.3 excursion...but that may be just the way it is, I don't care for the V-10.

I think Jason Harsch pulls with a Suburban and likes it.

I've got a 6.0 GM pickup 3/4 ton....now...does a good job towing my 60 and trailer...so I'm sure the suburban would be good too in 6.0 version. I went everywhere with my sub...no issues.

Like everyone knows...have plenty of $$ to buy gas with...thats just part of the deal.... above is before I was able to buy my own trailer...anyway the suburban is a good choice in my view... If I could have kept it I would have.

Yeah. It's already gonna get used more.

I got some great tailgate ideas off E Portal. This way I don't have to put a lid on it. Will haul wood and cooking stuff in here.

A receiver in the rear will be a good way to put a down leg in the rear to keep it from tipping while in the tent.

Well I played with the trailer on different spots on the rack and ended up with it pushed forward so I could easily access the box with the (future) tailgate up.

One advantage here versus the other way is that there is enough tongue weight I don't need a kickstand in the rear.

Weight at the jack with full water and tent stowed. Trailer empty. Easy to pick up and move still as the tongue is so long and it's balanced good

Knowing you and Red, I'd straighten the front leg and install dual rear stability/leveling legs!
