Bomar they also carry lots of replacement parts. Got a replacement part for the OZ tent from them.

@wct49 noticed in one of your ramble pictures that you got an excursion as a tow rig. Is it a 7.3 or a v10? We are looking at/ for one to do the same and am looking for some insight. I know the diesel would be preferred, but the v10's seem a little easier to come by and the power is there, just won't be able pass a gas station while towing a load.

Appreciate it.

I had to get a "new" title for my M416. First had to stop by a local PD to have an officer look it over and make sure it's VIN wasn't showing stolen property. He called in the S/N a couple times and obviously they couldn't find it. So its tagged as a home-built trailer. DMV even gave me a VIN-like tag to affix to the frame (which I have yet to do).

CT has a 7.3 Excursion, and it hauls the mail.

Find one. You don't want to be that guy that has to stop at every gas station to and from an event. Ask me how I know.

7.3 all the way. 4x4 if you can. dabomb.com

Nolen, thanks for the nod. I'm guessing that was a nudge for an update as well:

So, I yanked the tub so I could get a better look at the frame; It will be completely disassembled and stripped, but for now I just hit it with a flap to see if I could find any distressed spots:

There is only 1 small area of rust pitting; Not enough to stress over but I will reinforce that area with JB weld or some bondo-like stuff that I've used on boat applications (it's called Marine Tex, and its the shizzle for stuff like this).

Since the dust/fibers from the paint used on these things will apparently kill a man faster than the bite of an African Mamba, I used a chemical strip to get most of the old paint off:

Then, the flap wheel came back out

You can see lots of pitting on the bottom of the tub, but none of it goes all the way through.. I'll shore up some of the deeper pits, hit it with some rust converter, then self-etching primer, then a durable rhino-liner type paint.

Oh, and for those worried about my lungs in this process, I give you the official MUD salute:

Thanks guys. The 7.3 4x4s seem to be unobtanium around here, at least with my budget. The ones I've seen they are asking 15k-20k for. I got a line on a 2000 v10 limited that I am going to look at tonight. I'd rather had the diesel, but momma said if the motor goes then we could drop something else in. May call some of the local diesel shops and see what a 5.9 swap would run.

I say the 7.3 is worth the 15 plus. I paid $21k for mine with 94k on it 5 years ago. They are like cruisers. They are worth the cash. When Im fully loaded. 22.5k pulling both trucks I get about 9.5 miles to the gallon. Although last month going back and forth to Hot Springs I came in around 8.

I wonder what a V10 would get. 5mpg?

Do you really need the third row seats? Think hard on that. If not get a pickup with a diesel and a nice camper.

The V10 is actually a dog. If I had to tow with a gas truck and I had to have 3 rows I would find a 6.0 or 8.1 2500 Suburban.

At that load probably swaps from mpg over to gpm....

Got the little princess that we are working around. Don't really need the 3rd row, looking at it more from a camping and storage standpoint. Definitely making me rethink the v10, even if I can get it cheap.

there is ALWAYS a reason why something is cheap...
