I've been looking at awnings and was leaning towards a smittybilt 6.5 ft because I can get it for $150 right now but I'm concerned with it fitting in the garage once I put on the 866s and 33s.

I also saw this kingcamp awning that would be perfect for the end of the truck but could be cumbersome and not sure of quality.

So now I am thinking about making one with a frame and legs made out of 1 in pvc. Should be light and quick to set up. May even do adjustable length bars like paint poles to add tension. The attach a tarp. The pic is a mock up using some I had already. Has anyone made one of these?

adjustable legs are an absolute. The more they micro adjust the easier your setup will be.

I didn't even think about uneven ground so this make that would be even more important. I've seen random stuff on Internet with tent poles and tarps but they looked too flimsy.

I was also looking at the smittybilt trial shade. I like the compact size of it packed up, but it is only 2.5 ft wide at the narrow end. I would attach it to the roof rack so height wouldn't be an issue like a tire. I guess you could attach a tarp over it for more coverage but then why pay $70 that is a tarp, poles and string. It could be nice to carry and make a quick shade shelter.

I've got about 6in to top of rack now. I figure 1in for tires, 1-2 in for 866 (my springs are pretty spent) so that only leaves about 3 in. I'm just afraid that won't cut it when the awning is added. Basically was trying to do a lower profile option.

I have a tailgate tent already. It is big, heavy, and kind of a bitch to put up...but I guess I could just do that for now. I just figured I would kind of need an awning or something similar for the crawl especially if rainy. Are people mostly hanging out as a group or by trucks? Figured it would be nice to pull over for lunches on a trail too.

My fox wing will be back on the market once I get the parts in to fix it.
Made ya so mad you're selling the damn thing huh?

PO attached a baja rack to my factory rails. What are the best (ie strength) gutter mounted feet for a 100 series to put on for the rack?

I want to be able to climb on top and not feel like im going to fall through and dent roof

I meant rail mount.....

What are the best factory RAIL mounts "feet" on the market that are compatable with a half baja rack.

On iphone google im not finding clear results.

Those are meant to be attached to factory rails or something like Yakima. I'm not sure if you would gain much from different feet/mounting. The Rola on my 4Runner uses some u bolt attachments that are fairly strong. I think the baskets are meant for light duty carrying like water cans and luggage. You won't be able to mount heavy things like a RTT like you could with a full bolt on Baja rack.

I'm gonna pass on the deal that I got on it once it's fixed. It's down the list a bit though. $400 and either come and get it or mudship. Pick up at Crawl even better if I get it fixed by then...
