Allright enough already, this Thai dude probably drives a yugo, got hold of a G500 brochure, and likes to stir the pot with a little bit of knowledge.

I only scraped my front bumper bottom rubber pad on Kenny's Climb on Fins and Things. Never even hit on the crack. Very few scrapes overall.

To be VERY honest.....I was amazed at what this vehicle did in Moab. I thought I'd give up a lot to the 80's on trails like these and did not (except of course to the ones with taller lifts than my 100 had). In reality, the 100 tackled everything easily. I was more careful (and scared) than most though I ran every obstacle and luved it. If I wasn't concerned about keeping the 100 a blingmobile I'd probably try about anything in it after this experience. :)
If the blingmobile gets de-blinged on some trail.....the 80 goes bye bye.....and the 100 will be a project trail rig. :)

And one note: I ran everything with a dry and bad driver's CV. The dealer didn't install one clamp correctly and I arrived at Moab with it making noise. It made the trips and the drive home. :censor:

I have not read this thread, its 5 damn pages, so this might be a repost.........BUT, I found this in my inbox today, kinda cool, the Cruiser beat the Toureg up the volcano but just by a bit and the VW was stock(sorta) and the Cruiser was modified.

Record Ascent: German explorer takes a Volkswagen Touareg to new heights

Look out Land Rover, Volkswagen has moved into the off-road record book by reaching the highest elevation ever for a stock vehicle.

Last January German adventurer and veteran off-roader Rainer Zietlow set out to conquer Chile’s Ojos del Salado, the world’s tallest volcano. When it came time to choose a vehicle for the ascent, Zietlow sought the services of Volkswagen and its Touareg.

Zietlow’s decision to use a Touareg for his record-setting mountain climb may come as a surprise, because, after all, the Touareg is Volkswagen’s first and only SUV. However, Zietlow contends, “The Touareg has the best off-road and on-road capabilities of all the SUVs sold in Europe.”

Zietlow’s Touareg, an expedition model available only in Europe, came equipped with a roof rack, spotlights, underbody protective skid plates, locking rear differential and a winch, along with the base 3.2-liter
240-hp V6.

It was important for Zietlow that his vehicle be capable straight out of the box, because unlike other hillclimbers, he does not boost his vehicles with performance modifications. “My name is [synonymous] with using stock vehicles,” Zietlow says. “The Touareg we used is exactly what came from the factory, with no modifications.”

Zietlow’s reputation for expeditions in stock vehicles is why Mercedes-Benz hired him to pilot one of its M-Class SUVs across the grueling African continent.

Zietlow’s record-breaking journey in the Touareg began with a run through the Atacama Desert, one of the world’s driest areas, to the team’s base camp at 14,435 feet above the salt lake Laguna Santa Rosa. From there they tackled the slopes of the volcano, encountering giant roadblocks en route.

Many large, impassable boulders blocked the path and had to be moved with the help of the Touareg’s winch. The team navigated through the volcano’s relentless terrain that included snow, volcanic sands and rock-strewn trails reaching an 80 percent gradient.

Along with setting a new altitude record, a seismographic station was also established on Ojos del Salado—a primary goal of the expedition. The station makes it possible to register earthquakes above potential eruption hot spots in a region of Chile that is in constant danger of such activity.

On Jan. 29 both the Touareg’s onboard navigation system and the team’s altimeters read 19,950 feet, recognized by The Guinness Book of World Records as the highest elevation reached by a stock vehicle.

The trip to the summit took eight days to complete, but it took the team just three hours to get back down the mountain.

Already a Toyota Land Cruiser has gone higher. The truck, sporting a modified suspension giving it greater ground clearance, climbed to 20,859 feet. While the overall record is lost, Zietlow’s record for a vehicle in stock form remains intact.
Not one to rest on his laurels, Zietlow intends to try and break his own record one day. “If Volkswagen and my sponsors come back,” says Zietlow, “we can go another 35 meters.”

Hey, you brought the 100! Way to go!

VERY glad I did. If I'd a brought the 80 I'd of NEVER brought the 100 to Moab and/or Golden Spike especially. I would have thought for SURE that the 100 would have been dinged to death because of it's size. Not the case. It flew through with about $20 worth of paint touchups. :)

That's a nice shot of the UZJ100 at the Golden Crack!!! The LC is in a different league compared to VW. As for the G-Wagen, I like the boxy shape but I think a FJ40 still looks nicer than a G-wagen especially when you fit in larger tires. In my neighborhood, there're plenty of these G-Wagens, you gotta see the expression of these older guys in suits and ties when I pull my FJ40 right next their G.

I'd like to see one with 33s. I think the diesel has plenty of torque.

That is a pretty sweet Touareg, the TDI. There is a german aftermarket tuner named Abt, and this is their version of it

I could put it on the track, raise the suspension and change the tires and take it for some decent off road.

I'd like to add that to the Passat and FJ-60 garage I have now.

That puppy's gonna need more lift than the on-board can provide for you to get off-road too much. ABT's got that little sucker dropped a good bit. It looks like a Golf with that stance!!!

okay.. not to start anything, but looking at those pictures of the g-wagon "off-roading"... i felt a bit dissapointed.

I guess you could say the same about me during hurricane frances....

all in all i believe they're all great cars, except the poseurs in v6 t-rags who think they're all that.

Post them Thai. I bet they look great. :)

Keep in mind though that RTI scores and a pic here and there doesn't really show much "overall". :)

With all due respect for the G500, you're talking to the wrong crowd. We drive ultra-reliable SUV's that run forever and rarely with a breakdown. The G500's reputation for reliability is the total opposite. I'd never comsider one for ownership for this reason alone. Sorry. :)

Lastly, I'd suggest you remove the tire-size from your signature? 265x70-16 BFG KO? I have bigger tires on my Tacoma. Most of us here run 315x75-16 rubber. Post some pics of a G500 running 315's and 4-inches lift and we'll look. :)

Oh ya....sorry....didn't want to belittle fellow Cruiser drivers. It's funny though, adding a sub-32-inch tire to your signature on a $70 SUV that's being taughted as an "off-roader"? That's friggin' hilarious! :D

Here, say I joined the forum with a new 100, talked smack about it off road then posted this signature:

2005 UJZ100
Tan Color
31-inch Z-rated tires
1/2" inch lift
CB radio
V8 power
Sun roof for better off-road visibility
Power steering

:D
