First of all, I have and will have for the rest of my life restricted range/weakness on my legs/spine after a accident last year, funny how life changes, a day before the fall I be laughing about such a gizmo, but today I have to say I find it very useful..

Plus we have two little girls that will benefit from a lower step for a few years (well about 2 for one and 4 for the younger one.)

Besides I have massive respect for Horst leitner as a person, visionary, innovator and very honest fabricator (well mega big company/factory)
History | AMP Research

So what do you guys think, Too wimpy..?? (No hard core rock ledges, rubicon climbs, no anymore.

Not my cup of tea, but if it fits your needs, and it allows you to use/enjoy your vehicle, why not?

Amp Research Power Steps installed on FJ62
Is not a life and death situation, but I'm finding myself using the OEM step with a lot less pain than just reaching from the floor (To load up the girls on the carseats, oh man big difference)

I had to give my Outback, because I was not able to bend that low, get inside and drive with my spine straight, so sad what a freaking good wagon..

Thanks for the support and understanding..

Sorry to hear about your accident. I think they're great. Actually, when I was building my 100 I had designed a modified amp power step to essentially retract behind a bonafide slider. Best of both worlds. But the thought of the $$$ for the parts and machining, etc., well- I figured the wife can just suck it up. Shhh. Don't tell her I said that!

I think in your case they'd be a great addition. As long as you aren't really wheeling it and risking damage to them, rock on!

Gracias senor, I have come to apreciate the way your brain works by watching your multifacetic thinking process in your builds..

Maybe Kevlar/composite armor as reinforcements...;-)

Okay the ones I found are from a newer tundra trucks, and so far I have no found a solid answer if they will work and how much custom work they will require to be retrofit (looks very modular to me, but I don't know Polar bear to well...

Please time sensitive, I can not waste a $1000 in just a pipeDream....

I need evidence that the transplant can be done, I'm very mechanically inclined (well not like many of you guys here) but my spine is really mess up plus I don't have a lift, so even simple things become really hard to do..

Patineto,

Have you tried calling some of the local shops that stock / install the steps? They might be willing to take a look at the TLC and seeing what they have in stock would fit / modifying it work / doing the install for you.

I see that they have a set for the newer generation 4Runner and Sequoia, those 2 might be your best shot at finding something close to fitting.

There are around 8 local shops to you in SLC. But caveat emptor, no experience with any of them. But you could post in the local cruiser section here in mud and folks could give you honest feedback form any of the places. There probably are closes places to you, if you just enter your zip. I just put in SLC.

Many Thanks for the massive effort, it makes me feel very warm and welcome..

Sadly today is a holiday, so I have no gotten a response from AMP on my email (send 3 different ones) but I will call them tomorrow first thing in the Am.

I'm kind of assuming the structure is just not there under the sills, to hold such load and leverage, it most be a really good reason they don't make them for the cruisers..

Horst is a very responsible designer, engineer and business man and he will not compromise for second best.

Thanks again for you super helpful hints and links..
