Hey there, thought I’d go ahead and make an introduction post. I’ve lurked around here for a long time, though I finally made this account when I was ready to make a purchase. I got a 2000 w/ 156k off another member here.
This truck really is everything I’ve hoped for, I’ve been wanting a Land Cruiser for years. I originally was set on an 80 series, but with a growing family, (our second is due in Dec) the 100 seemed a bit more family friendly.
The Cruiser has been really well maintained, previous owner did the timing belt, water pump, heater t’s, and all fluids before the sale.
Love the way the truck drives, took it out on a little shakedown drive here in VA, about 30 miles worth of forest service roads in George Washington National Forest, about 300 miles round trip for the day, even averaged a little over 15 mpg with all the backroads included.
I have a question for you all.
It does have a driver side manifold tick, (I knew that before the purchase) the tick goes away after about a minute of driving. I was all set to purchase some DT headers and get them installed, but yesterday on a drive the ABS and VSC/TRAC OFF lights came on for a couple minutes. It was a hot day here in VA, over 95˚, I didn't notice any change in braking when the lights came on, and later nothing on my OBD reader. Also I've tested the brake booster and it shuts off right at 30 seconds.
So now I'm wondering if I should go ahead with the headers or should I start chasing the cause of the lights coming on?
I'm wondering what the culprit for the lights could be, if it is a wiring issue, fuse, abs sensors..? From what I've been reading here sounds like it could be a whole host of potential things, but with it being a family rig too I don't want to take any chances, and am wondering where is the best place to start diagnosing the cause.
Thanks guys, I'm stoked to be joining the family.
