I took my 100 out for a little fun this weekend. We went to the Natural Bridge area in Slade, KY. There were three of us, John in a 40, Blaine in a RR classic, and me in the 100.

I was pretty excited about getting out with the new rear bumper on. I hadn't been able to test it out yet. It held up great. I only ended up dragging it once on a rock ledge but it never budged.

The sliders got a good work out. I dragged them several times. The step section (the part that sticks out) really saved me on a section where I had to drag along the slider to keep out of a dirt wall. The step sliders stuck out far enough to keep the dirt wall and roots from getting into my doors.

Here's some pics:

Love the CAVE! How long is it?

Good shots Greg. Beautiful area.

I was about 3/4 of the way into it with that picture looking out of the cave. Its probably 100 ft or so. In the back, there is a stream that pools up and then comes out to a waterfall in front of the cave. I have a few more pics that I'll post up tonight. I haven't downloaded all the pics yet.

Very nice Greg. Are you happy with it?

Bull,
I'm very happy with it so far. It has done everything I have asked of it.

I did bang it up a bit though. I have a couple more pics of the sliders taking a beating, but they held up great. I'll post up more pics tonight after I resize them.

I need to do Shott's steel plate mod on my rear control arm mounts. I bent the PS mount pretty good on a rock ledge. I was sliding on slider and frame just fine, then I hit that mount and stopped dead in my tracks.

Greg,

That's look like a nice place to wheel. Perhaps I can set up an extended weekend wheeling trip through the Chicago LR club and you guys can show us around? These guys need to expand their wheeling abilities beyond Attica!

Ali,
I would love to show you guys around. Unfortunately, some of this area is being closed to all vehicles as part of a land reclamation iniative in the area. A lot of this area will be closing April 1st. We're not sure exactly how much yet. I'll know a lot more in the next month or so.

It really is a shame that the ATV crowd had to ruin it for everyone. Apparently, the ATV's have destroyed so much of the hillsides by going off the main trails that erosion issues have become severe. Last weekend may be the last time I get to drive some of that area for quite a while.:crybaby:

I'll let you know what turns out in the upcoming months.

Better way to reinforce a lower control are is to put a perpendicular bar on the opposite side of the side of the bar that contacts the rocks. It will keep the control arm from bending inward on contact.

Sleeving is good, but this method is the strongest.

Wrong spot. I'm going to add angle iron to the arms too. What I'm talking about is the actual mount that is welded to the frame. It likes to bend in when a rock hits it. Here's a pic of John's with the steel plate welded on: http://shottscruisers.smugmug.com/gallery/958316/1/44066634
Here's another pic after he trimmed the bottom edge off: http://shottscruisers.smugmug.com/gallery/958316/1/44068730
I'm just trying to keep the mount from getting buggered up too bad.

Sweet pix man!

100 is looking awesome!

Great pics and great terrain to travel through. Bummer about the closure though.

That makes sense....

Very proud of you Greg! You and I need to start a club called the "Arm Benders Organization". :D

You know you wheel when ya bend arms and screw up sliders.

Becky got mad it me on our last run in the 100. That optional path was BAD and we were bottoming out off and on then SLAM SLAM! She said "WHAT ARE DOING?". She knows it wasn't my fault. It just scared her. My slider is WHITE now in that spot.

GO GREG! How'd ya like your TRAC?

I hadn't heard some of Slade was shutting down. That is a shame. I guess before long the only wheeling will be private parks.
