This isn't a complaint just a fun post about dealer service costs.

This morning, I was first in line at the Lexus dealership for an alignment. About 45 minutes into the appointment, the advisor called me in to discuss recommended maintenance based on looking at past service history.

Alignment - $314.92
Rear brake pads w/ Rotor Refacing - $604.51 [DIY $79.00 DONE]
Outer Tie Rod Ends - $866.35
Cabin Filter $92.59 (Just did this about 2 months ago)
Front Differential Oil Change - $168.94
Transfer Case Oil Change - $168.94
Rear Differential Oil Change - $241.34
Brake Flush - $264.37
Coolant Flush - $330.28
Transmission Flush - $724.28
Spark Plugs - $886.17
GDI Fuel / Air Induction Service - $327.92
Power Steering Flush - $308.20

The list adds up to $5,528.60, of which $1,154 is parts. The good news is I have a complete list of the parts I need!

Nearly $900 for doing the tie rods is so unreal I can't even comprehend how you didn't die laughing right there on the phone

You probably don't "need" most of those parts either. I'd challenge them to show you the tie rods even being bad. But yes it is nice to have a list of part numbers to easily give someone else the business.

Wth is a GDI fuel/air induction service anyway?

Get it to a good indy and see what they say.

Well, even the alignment seems expensive, but compared to adding up everything else, seems cheap.
Changing diff lubes while sometimes messy, is not difficult.
I guess many Lexus customers, just say OK.

Changing the fluids in the diffs and transfer case are actually service items in the owners manual (at least they were for an 18 LX). I had my transmission fluid changed and the dealership made me sign a statement that changing the fluid is not require or recommended.

They all sound like good things to do, just not by paying them those obscene prices.
It doesn't seem like much in the way of parts on that list. Over $1100-really?
So how did the alignment go?

I agree that most of these should be done. I may check out an Indy should but I will probably end up doing most of it myself. I’ve not changed spark plugs on an LX but that seems to be the craziest to me.

$92.59 for a $15 filter and 3 mins of labor, dealers are nuts.

Def do the diff and transfer case but not at those prices. I think I paid $50-$75 or so for each diff/transfer case. Spark plugs are hassle to change bit not $886 worth of hassle but you should do them if not done already.

Is transmission flush really $700??

I was in an out-of-town emergency situation a few weeks ago and the small-town Toyota dealer charged me $680 to basically replace my battery. And it wasn't even a Toyota battery! The girl at the counter told me that because it's a Lexus it takes a premium battery. Due to my situation I had to just grin and bear (and pay) it. 🤣😭

A rule of thumb I figured for Bay Area is that if dealers charge you $100, you can get it done by Indy for $70 or pay $30 for parts and diy

And $92 to break the cabin filter recirc flap for you. Heck, I know to break that and I’d do for half.

Sent you a PM. I'm local to you and we have a community of 10-12 LX/LC owners on here. Between myself and them, we've done all the maintenance items you listed and we're happy to help out.
Much appreciated, thank you!

the 'rape you' list
do 90% of that yourself

So, did they align it having worn tie rod ends? is it really worn? what methods did they check it with?
None of my Toyota's needed any tie rods or front end work at 155k, my 03 4Runner at 320k still have original rack and tie rods.
I would get a second opinion and see if they come up with similar list, don't mention the list from the dealer.

The tech/mechanic must be really starving or the advisor is just greedy, i worked for dealerships for 21 years the mechanic always get the short end. :censor:

If GDI = gasoline direct injection, what are they going to service as part of this 'service?'
