Hey guys - long time lurker here, used countless threads for DIY work on my '06 GX, what a great community. But I've got a pickle and signed up for some community advice.
Details:
- Drove 1,500 miles with 3qt too much oil, mostly stop and go city traffic
- Noticed engine bogging on acceleration from stop, checked dipstick and saw it was way high
- Local chicago shop did valve cover gasket service and "topped up" the oil 3 months ago, no engine work since then....
- 2006 GX - 159k miles
- No check engine lights popped up, no white smoke from tailpipe during 1,500 miles
- A few leaks around the engine bay, it is 18 years old and 160k miles, seem to be around worn-out hose clips...I don't know if these were already there or were caused by the overfill.
- There is some oil coming down the passenger side front of the engine (dripping down radiator support and off the tow-hook) - not sure where it's coming from. RMS has been leaking slowly for the past 15k miles though.
- Quick 10min drive today, engine bog seemed to be gone - got it up to 4k RPM under load and seemed fine. The engine does have a medium ticking at idle behind driver's side wheel well but maybe that has always been there or is stock?
So the question, I'm now trying to diagnose damage done/how bad. What potential damage would have been done to engine internals? What would have been the things to break? What can I check or keep an eye out on to see how bad things got?
I'm taking the GX back to the culprit shop on Wednesday to have them inspect it and want to come preloaded with intel as I have lost trust in them now...
