I went hiking in the Colorado back country yesterday and didn't want to carry my money clip with me, so I "hid" it in the jack compartment. When I got home, I opened the compartment door and there was no money! It was then I discovered that the jack compartment has a sneaky tunnel where things can get lost. Has my money been vented to the outside or is it resting in a cozy compartment waiting to be fished out?

I know that area you're talking about... I'm pretty sure it's sealed off inside the fender, but I'm not confident to put money on that (no pun intended). I lost a bolt down there and was able to fish it out using a child size hand... YMMV.

Pull the rear carpet and the rear trim panel and you can access that area quite easily. Stick your cell phone camera in there and take some pictures to locate it and see if you can snag it with a ruler with tape on the end.

If it's a steel clip try a magnet...

I throw my wallet in the map pocket of my door. Out of sight, out if mind. Why did you need to go hiding your money in the jack compartment? Was a break in eminent? Good luck with ruler and magnet. Taking apart the interior is pretty easy if it comes to that.

Remove the jack and the 3 bolts that hold the jack's bracket in place for a start. Remove the bracket and continue from there.

^^This. There's easy access once that bracket is removed, and it is sealed off. I ran wires through there to power my auxiliary reverse lights.

Just read in the local paper a few days ago about thieves targeting wilderness parking areas in the vicinity who broke into 10 cars looking for money, tools, ski and camping gear, etc. Made me a bit more cautious than usual about having a good hiding place.

Thanks for all the tips. Good to know it's still in there. Now I just need to go fishing.

So, in the event of a breakin, where is the best place to hide wallet/cash if not there?

When I hunt/fish, I start by leaving only the necessities in my wallet...it tends to fill with crap over time. Wallet usually goes with me while hunting , sealed in a couple of small ziploc's...not too many people tend to jack with 3-4 guys on horseback that are well armed.

When fishing, Samuel Colt goes with me, as well as a relatively large dog.

If you truck is jacked by a pro, they know where to look. Only place that comes to mind now might be under the cup holders on the center console...maybe. I just figure that if it's with me instead of in the truck, that's just a bit less to worry over. I try and park in a lot near a well-traveled road, if possible.

Turn it upside down and shake it. Mine had a Euro coin in it. About a $2 rebate.
