Getting ready to swap a FJ80 FF rear into my tacoma but ran into alittle problem. The housing is an elocker housing but the diff is a non elocked diff with an Aussie. I swapped out the long studs for shorter ones and went to drop the 3rd into the housing but it wouldnt go in all the way. It would go over the studs and stop with about a 1/4 in of gap. Looking at the inside of the housing it looks like the bearing caps on the 3rd are hitting the casting of the diff.
Anyone run into the same problem? I would just grind alittle off the cap or housing but wanted to see first if anyone has run into this.

the only difference between the two housings is a small releif for the actuator fork on the elocker. That diff should drop right in without issue.

So the M416 is almost complete and I'm heading to PA this coming week for the CMCC. I have a hitch on the back but I'm not wired for trailer lights. I see a plug near the rear cross member, that looks to tie into the rear tail lights, but I'm fairly sure that it is not a plug and play adapter.
I need some input on how to get power to the trailer. Is there an adapter I can buy from an Auto Zone, PepBoys etc.? If not where is the easiest place to make the splice? I was able to find the color codes through search but I have very little electrical experience.

Sorry, hitting the housing.
stole this pic of a front housing but its the same deal. Where the arrows are is where the caps look to be hitting.
when you are talking power you are referring to a 30amp line to charge a battery or something?
as I said the housing are identical with the exception of that area removed for the actuator.
I'm assuming you put the paper gasket in place and saw not issues?
If your diff is hitting somewhere then the diff is the problem.
nope sorry should've been clearer. I need to get the lights to work on the trailer. (turn signal/brake/running lights/hazards). My 80 doesn't have a harness wired up, the trailer is wired and ready but the truck is not.
Go to napa and they have a plug and play kit available. I'm around all weekend if you want to take a drive down and slap it in.

I talked with Napa and the part number is balkamp 7551470 and the closest one is in NJ.
However I should have a factory unit in the tan 80 that we could throw in to get things up and running.

Did the hose tonight, took about an hour. They are right, it is a pain in the butt.
Kit was shipped Wed and was here this morning from TX.
big weekend in the garage. I'm getting the grey truck ready for Moab and boy does it need it.
Replaced rear bearings
repacked front bearings
mini front axle service
4 new calipers and pads
all new gear lube
I still have to bleed the brakes and rebuild the e-brake with new shoes.
up next is to drain and fill the fan clutch, fix the snorkel and then do something about those missing mud flaps and fender flares.

Now that was funny.
You probably should stick to mechanicals, nobody seems to G.A.S about minor things like flares and flaps out West.
Great cruiser 4th. SIL came down with his 80. Worked on both of them. On the 40 I adjusted the drum brakes PROPERLY! (The dealer had messed them up) Boy do well adjusted drums stop on a dime. Then took the gang offroad to the beach for a little play time and fried clams.
