I needed to give the old 40 an oil change today and figured I should replace those leaky valve cover & oil pan gaskets, valve cover was easy, oil pan was not so much, 9 quarts later,,,holy crap 9 quarts!!!

Still having carb issues, drove it to work sputtering/stalling/ etc. the whole way, I installed new seats and tied the brackets to the roll cage, started it up to drive home and not even a little skip or fart???? I'm confused,,,the tank has been recently cleaned & sealed (professionally) new fuel pump & lines, cleaned the carb (i think), sometimes it runs great & sometimes she wont even idle???

Have you rebuilt it?
Could you have an intermittent problem with
your ignition system?

It's a new carb (weber) , I didn't even think of an ignition problem she starts no problem just wont idle sometimes, I checked the plugs and it seems to be running rich, but it could be oil blow by, im getting some smoke at start up.

Got the 80 going into the exhaust shop for a new muffler finally on Thursday. Then I need to go through the brakes (something is dragging very slightly) and hopefully get it through state inspection.

You still have the factory exhaust on it?

Blasted a side cover and started blasting the oil pan for my truck. Got way to hot in the garage so I ended up cleaning the coushin in between the windshield and tub. It was in really good shape except for the dirt and over brust from the PO. I would say over spray but I am 90% sure that he painted it with a brush. I was able to lightly scrape the paint off with a bottle cap and it looks really good. Much better than spending $290 to get a new one from Toyota.

I think so, though I'm sure it's not 100% factory at this point (246k miles). The big OEM muffler is beat to hell. My local shop will weld in something smaller and rehang it high and tight.

The brakes are more about getting the e-brake to work but not drag. I've fiddled with it, literally since I got it and it's never quite right. I'll let these guys adjust everything up and get me inspection ready.

Hopefully my local place will continue not to care about the CEL or ABS lights being on (they passed it that way last year). I think if it was an OBDII truck I'd be screwed but OBDI gets a pass on that stuff.

I hope. Fingers crossed.

Sweet Tom. What square tubing did you end up using? I need to come up with some.

i used 1.5"x1.5"x1/8" tube, it's what i had laying around, it's plenty strong.

I think you should be all set. If I remember correctly, VT is like Maine. It is a safety inspection. Not an emissions inspection. A CEL code doesn't affect the safety of the truck. At least that is what my mechanic friend tells me. He does my inspections and doesn't care if there is a CEL on. But then again, its been 7 years since I lived in VT.

I stopped by a local company called "carbs r us", the guy told me there is an inline filter inside the carb near the inlet, a lot of times this catches some chunk and the filter gets crushed in and restricts the gas, so i checked and I pulled out a dirty filter that looked like a crushed in the middle beer can, the cap for this filter is under the inlet so I just didn't see it, seems to run and idle fine now:steer:

Just talked to the exhaust shop... they welded in a new muffler and are doing some work around the cats where there were leaks, fixing/replacing flanges, putting in 1 new O2 sensor bung, and sealing everything up correctly. Heck, maybe my CEL will go away? (I can dream, right?)

Glasspack muffler welded in (cheap, durable, and up and out of the way). Not quiet but a nice low, smooth tone... I like it. :)

New sections of pipe on both sides of both cats, including 2 new O2 bungs. This will be great when I inevitably replace those 2 sensors, as that is usually a bear of a job do to the tight space and ever present rust.

I also had them go through my brakes and adjust my ebrake, as well as add a few hangers to my exhaust. I should be ready for inspection!

This is the second exhaust job I've had done at Morningside Garage in Charleston NH and I'm really happy with their work. Very reasonable prices and they fab up everything themselves.

Had a skid plate made to protect my new Orion. Just finished with the final coat of paint. Also made a new shift linkage for the 4wd hi/low, the sbc made it difficult. I really wanted to keep the shifter on the dash.

Moved the tube crossmember back so I can fit up the H55.

Picked up some SEM Rust Shield

I am now noticing a trend (i think), Saturday went wheelin and she ran great, started her up Sunday and all was good, drove to the gas station, filled up and all of a sudden she didn't want to idle??????
