Jumped under the truck today. Removed all the guts from my transfer case actuator housing, manual slid the actuator rods and removed the front drive shaft. I can finally drive the truck again, while I wait for my Lefty to arrive. What a pain in the A!!

The 80 decided to mysteriously not start at my son's school today. Then it mysteriously restarted with no problem, though I had to hold the key a beat longer to get the starter to engage.

It was pouring but the truck has been running great... wondering if the starter is starting to go.

I started cleaning the cab since the seats & gas tank are out, I was going to sand & paint inside, after looking closely it looks like I will need a wally tub this winter, among other things

Yup classic starter contact issue. Replace contacts and your fixed.

not dead yet

well,
I thought "the magnet" was the issue with my transfer;cleaned it up, bench tested fine, put it back in.....but still no low range under power:hmm:
so I yanked that case, put a good one in and tore down the old case to find that the low range output gear had stripped it's six large rivets which fastened it to it's center housing, never did that before:clap:
It is nice to find weak links and all, I was hoping for one of those ten-year-old driveshaft ujoints to be it.......
still doesn't explain "the magnet".......

38.5" Swampers x 6000 rpm = ;)

actually those were 39.5 buddy
and you forgot to multiply by 250-300 ponies and 45 degrees as well:rolleyes:
I believe the correct sum is :hillbilly:

are flywheels supposed to be blue?

I received my new fuel pump from cruiseroutfitters today, was getting ready to install and looked at the instructions (I don't know why!!!!) it says I need this "insulator"in between the pump and the block, it doesn't come with one and it says "use insulator from old fuel pump", humm mine didn't have one????
Do I need it?

Mine old motor didn't have one and my new motor has it. I know J Peters didn't use it on his and ruined the fuel pump. I would take the old one out and compare the length of the piece that goes into the motor.

They look exactly the same to me:meh:

mine is a 74, I don't think I need it.

I got the gas tank in, new fuel pump and lines, crossed my fingers and turned the key, after sitting for three weeks she started up with a bit of a burble, then purred like every mid 70's F engine does, I am a happy man.
