Success! picked up my charged battery, everything tested fine with it. Threw it in the truck, nothing. Didn't have a helper to spray carb cleaner in the intake while I cranked so I swapped out the fusible links and it fired right up! Yes!

Now, new problems.

1. Can't get it out of park without jamming a screwdriver in the override hole
2. Power Windows don't work
3. No dash gauges work
4. Forward progress in drive seems super sluggish, I need to give it so much gas to get moving, something odd there..... oddly, in reverse, it is it's normal, peppy self.

Need to go through fuses.....

Thoughts?

Sounds like something got wet? maybe the fuse pannel? Is the trany in 'limp' mode? do you have a code reader? is the CEL on?

CEL has been on since I got it, suspected O2. Never pulled codes.

Water must have worked it's way in somewhere somehow this winter..... grrrrrrr I know nothing about electrical. How screwed am I?

Found tons of good trouble shooting info with pics on here so I'll just start in and find it. :)

First Dave find some middle ground between ultra positive and completely doomed. Troubleshooting problems can be as much a mind set as anything.

There are quite a few items that can cause poor idling and running issues like the air pipe from the VAF to the throttle body. But since you blew a fuseable link I'd go out and look closely where the loom passes over the EGR valve. This is likely your problem.

Gauges fuse was bad, replaced it and all that stuff is working fine now.

Still need to use a screwdriver to get it out of park, and I still am super sluggish going forward(though reverse seems normal).

Suzuki is almost done!

Parts came in on friday so set to work yesterday. Total list of things to date: clean and rebuild the carbs. Clean and inspect the tank. Disassembled and cleaned the petcock and fuel screen. Replace all four intakes and o-rings with new ones. Synchronize the carbs and adjust the idle jets. Clean and oil the chain, inspected the tranny seals and drive sprocket while I was in there, no leaks. Inspect the valve lash, they're tight but within spec. Oiled the cables and adjusted the clutch and throttle cables. Discovered the forks were out of alignment using a piece of plate glass. So re-aligned those, tracks nice and straight. Flushed and bled front and rear brakes, they squeal a bit but stop great. All that's left is to change the oil and filter. Paint the exhaust trumpets, the chrome is gone. And give it a good cleaning. After going for a two mile ride I'm not so sure I want to sell it now.
Guess I'll need to register it and go for a good long ride to decide that one:lol:

It was a beautiful day up in the woods of western Maine today. I got my first full day in wrenching on the Troopy. I've got a bunch of rust to deal with on the bottom of the tub so I pulled the tranny/tcase, both fuel tanks, water seperator, vacuum tank and the exhaust. I cut the rusty sections out of the front floor and will soon be ready to get to work on welding in patch panels to fix all the rust.

It's nice to have grease under my fingernails for a change.

What are the plans for the bike? Summer cruiser....;)

Already have a cruiser. This one really needs to go, or I should say I need to let it go. I need the money for my Citizenship application.
Good old Uncle Sam wants $675 just for the privilege of sending them my application

If you register it...it will stay. :grinpimp:

When do we get to paint Kermit?

Went to DMV yesterday to get it registered. Problem is it hasn't been registered in nine years and I couldn't find the old reggie or the bill of sale. But $15 and 45 minutes of patience and they were able to find the last reggie and give me a certified copy. It was actually a very pleasant experience, not what I expected from DMV. Going to the Town Hall on Thursday and get it legal.

Kermmie is in pretty sad shape isn't he? Have a customer dropping off his rig on Saturday for some frame repair and depending on his funds and satisfaction with that, maybe a whole lot more work. Kermit painting may be back burnered again this year.

I have a roller, I'll help paint!

Sweet! I dare you!

"I have a roller, I'll help paint!"

"Dave - YOU'RE FIRED! Lane & I will be painting Kermit. You might not know when or where...but it will happen. Kermit resents the shine on your other "cruiser"."

Guess I need to get my new WS frame, split hood, hinges and bib prep'ed and ready:D Lane, no joke, I've been contemplating brushes and rollers. Old guy in town thins lacquer with gasoline and rolls on a new coat every year. Looks good. He says the "new" gas doesn't work as well though!

I prefer Rustoleum 50/50 thinned, with a fire hose nozzle in the gun! How about john deer green? or maybe Ace harward 'safety yellow'? It looks great on sanders and plows!
