To Volt or not to volt…

Voltmeter is bouncing below and above the normal range and head lights dim and brighten accordingly. I just changed the battery two-weeks ago. What should I check/replace next to avoid getting stranded, alternator, fuse, voltage regulator (if any)?
All ideas are welcome…

Check the fusilble links and the alternator brushes.

Check all your wires.... including what Pin_Head mention. Make sure you have good grounds as well.

Check the alternator??? I've had a bad alternator take out the batery, replaced the battery, then killed it again.. to find out it was the alternator.. Luckily battery was replaced unde warranty!
Should be an easy check at the local parts storte they can usually test your alternator in a couple of minutes for free without taking it off!
