truck lifted 16k miles ago with diff drop. Driver side outside boot throwing some grease. Maybe a table spoon full. So based on all my searching I have not found anyone saying it's going to heal its self. The PS is dry but the truck is a 2005 that has spent its life in Nevada and now Texas so that means no rust but it's hard on rubber so I figure I should have both sides replaced. What should a dealer charge for this service?

05 LX as well with diff drop

I threw on a set of PFRAN CV boot clamps/bands for an additional seal/peace of mind.

Toyota dealer replaced both boots on One side for $395, maybe I got beat up on the price ?

Thanks for the info. I'm having mine looked at Wednesday, I will let you know what they quote at my local Toyota dealership. I was thinking if I did one side I should do both?? The passenger side is not leaking but it is a 2005? What are your thoughts?

I would only do the side that needs it .. but if they inspect the other side and see dry rot or cracking then sure go for it.

There are guys up here with 98's and original non leaking CV boots so 10 yrs shouldnt concern us

I hate spending money on parts/repairs that could be better spent on accessories and road trips !

GL - keep us posted

As long as the boots are good you can just re-grease and put a clamp on. Several on here have done just that, including myself. It's been 2 years now sine I have done that and had no issues. Just keep an eye them. Best of luck

Got under the beast and cleaned up both sides of the CV boots, just to confirm no cracks or failed rubber. Everything looks OK and no new grease thrown. I am getting it in the shop on Wednesday for oil/filter change and driveshaft re torque and grease. Will drive a 100+ miles by then so if it is still leaking it should show up. Slee told me there would/could be some leaking after the OME lift with diff drop. At least I will have all the information to make the right decision. Thanks guys for the feedback.

I'd do both side, OCD in me. Like you said it's an '05 and it'd be cheaper now than doing it in Maui if the other side fails. If one side went the other's not far behind I would think. Just my $0.02 :meh:

What is a fair price to reboot both sides. I bot the boot kits (comes with new cv grease and boots) and pfran clamps for both sides so i just need a fair price for labor only.

Im thinkin $200 per side?

No rush on my previous post but i would like some feedback before tomorrow afternoon as thats what i am to pick her back up.

200 per side would be nice but I think you'll probably get dinged for more like 300. Re-booting means pulling the CV axle so there are a lot of steps. A smaller shop might do it for 200/side but you'll want to make sure they're experienced enough with the LC to get the re-assembly right.

Well I cleaned and shined up both sides boots, last week. So I could see where it was leaking. So when the dealer looked at my beast, they don't think the inside boot by the wheel is leaking, they think someone already rebooted it, even though I told them I had cleaned it up. they think the steering rack is leaking on the CV boot. Well my power steering is full but they claim it only takes a few drops to make it look like its leaking. Well before I cleaned everything up last week there was yellow grease on the inside of the wheel and some slung on the wheel well and around the boot. Not a lot but about a table spoon full. The grease looks like it's coming out under the clamp. I would not think dripping brake fluid would look like yellow grease? The passenger side is dry. So? Lexus will reboot for $350 with loaner car and 12 month unlimited mileage warranty. Toyota wants $330 no warranty no loaner car. Local Landcrusier shop wants to replace everything with an after market CV kit for $400, claimed it was better and easier then reboot??? I don't like after market.

I had a reboot done at my local Toyota Dealership in NH and it was $330. They had a 10% off service coupon so ended up $297 out the door. No tax in NH. I was given a free Corolla for the day. No idea what the warranty is though.

For the little extra, I would go with the Lexus reboot for the 12 month warranty.
