I don't know the history of TLCA but if it is a club started by Toyota like HOG was started by Harley then it was just a marketing ploy to start with and shrinking membership means $$ loss as the target market shrinks. Sooo... from a members point of view I would disapprove of a name change and it will alienate old time members but from a marketing viewpoint it might make sense. Personally, I would say no. They should bring back the old time LC instead!!

The TLCA started with a handfull of guys who had no direct relationship with Toyota Mo. Co. It's grown from there with no direct affiliation with Toyota.

I don't know the history of TLCA

It was started by a group of enthusiasts in CA in 1976. We could hardly get the time of day from Toyota corporate until they launched the FJC in 2006 and leaned on the LC heritage to build momentum for that model. TLCA has been grass-roots and volunteer driven since day one.

Go to the TLCA web site and read the full history of TLCA if you're curious. It was a 4 part article written by past President Tony Twiddy, which originally appeared in Toyota Trails. A most excellent read if you are interested.

Happy cruisin'!

Thanks. The vote was based on a consensus of all bod delegates (at least, the ones that called in... and that's not our fault.. can't make 'em do the job), members, reps, and officers.
It just doesn't make any sense with this much history to just change the name. We are clear in our bylaws that we welcome all makes of Toyota 4x4, so changing the name would only be a band aid. For now, let us focus on the cure, so that the band aid is a non issue. We are trying, and listening very closely.
And please, if you feel you might see a better way for us to achieve this, let us know, or become a delegate, or run for an officer's position, because we really do want to ge this ship righted, and to make a tangible difference in the perception of the club.
I am working with a deficit, and trying to overcome that. Hard to make up ground against these perceptions, but this club is stepping up to the plate to make it a great club for everybody, it just takes time and money, and we've got more time than money, but we feel that if the value is there, members will stay, and some may even come back.
Thanks for your patience on this deal, and thanks for the comments, and thanks for the continued support!! It all means a lot to us as we walk this path!!!

I would like to personally thank all the delegates and officers who participated in this evening's meeting. You represented our membership, and you voted on their behalf.

We remain the world's foremost Toyota 4x4 club, non profit, run by volunteers who care passionately about each other.

We are and shall continue to be, the Toyota LAND CRUISER Association.

Thanks and happy cruisin'!
