This is a reminder for the Name Change Committee to be prepared to report on their findings back to the board before our meeting on 5/27/2010.

Thanks and happy cruisin'!

Honestly does it really matter? You need to have a direction and vision which isn't evident at this time. Once you find those, you take that route and never turn back regardless of the consequences.

Hi Hot Rod,

I don't know who you are, but part of my job is to be responsive to membership's needs and wishes, no matter my own opinions. The notion of changing the name has come up many, many times during the 8 years I have served on TLCA's Board of Directors. It apparently matters to enough of our board members, who represent rank-and-file TLCA members, that I have appointed a committee to bring pros and cons before the board, and we will then vote on it, to represent the wishes of all TLCA members.

At the beginning of last year, my first as leader, and the beginning of this year, I have drafted and disseminated a comprehensive document which puts into writing TLCA's Goals, Strategies and Tactics for the coming year. I am the first TLCA President to have done so. If this has not been disseminated to you, please contact your chapter delegate, or if you are not in a chapter, your IR, for a copy. I also disseminate a great deal of this in my Trail Leader column in Toyota Trails each issue.

Your advice to take a route and never turn back regardless of the consequences is useful in some situations. As TLCA's leader, it is incumbent on me to take all our member's wishes into account, as it is for all of the members of the board. We represent member's interests before our own.

Thanks and happy cruisin'!

Thanks for pointing that out. I have tried to contact you many times (through Pm's and phone calls) to see if you have a problem with me or my club. So unless you have the balls to speak to me directly and get out from behind your keyboard, you should probably stay out of things.

As far as the name change, I think it should be left alone. It was founded on Landcruisers so you should stick with it and go that direction. That's all that I was trying to say above. This is coming from a guy with a mini.

I could not agree more with your statement Woody.

I cringed a bit back when TLCA involved all Toyota 4WD's (even though I owned Tacoma's and mini trucks and still do.) The TLCA has always captured the "spirit" of the people behind the vehicle, not just the vehicle alone. I joined the TLCA because of my addiction and love of the FJ40, and now to include the 80 series.

In this high speed info driven world, it's comforting to know that a few organizations stay true to its roots. I would not think changing the name would *modernize* the concept in any way.

Continued focusing more on the people, the chapters and Toyota Land Cruiser content and... (if this means less members, let the cards fall where they will.)

Quality is still king, and more than ever we find - " Less is sometimes more."

TLCA's future? While TLCA seems dead set against being a 'classic car club', that is where I believe it's future success will be. Focus on the history. Focus on the people that made that history, within Toyota and TLCA. Focus on the older trucks, the restorations, the builds, and the backyard projects. Focus on the Land Cruiser name. That is why the organization started in 1976.

Hotrod, I am not hiding. I am not a hider. Cacy will be the first to tell you I went right up to him at the Bakersfield swapmeet last month and shook his hand. Hardly something a hider would do.

I do not have ANY record of you having called my shop AT ANY TIME and only one PM from you a few months ago, which I chose not to respond to at the time because I could not guarantee you that I would remain civil, based on my personal hurt over the raffle vehicle and the biased approach your club took towards it.

I still maintain a cordial relationship with many members of your club.:)

Please do not hijack this thread any further. The TLCA name change will be voted on next week as well as the disposition of the raffle vehicle, and the association will move on, as I have.

Best

We will agree to disagree then. Look on your profile page, there is even a message there.

Our club did not take a biased approach over the raffle truck. Dan asked members of the club to come out and look at the raffle vehicle as TLCA wanted an opinion on it. You told everybody that it was a $3,500 donation when in fact it might be worth $500.00. I can name five people, including Dan, that said the same thing. It had no registration and there were more than one vin on the vehicle. So if you think that is suitable as a raffle vehicle, you are mistaken. What are you upset over, you got it removed from your yard before you got fined. And you haven't moved on as you take shots at my club, my brother, and myself anytime you can. Just own it.

Hi Hot Rod,

I appreciate your input, and I personally feel similarly. As TLCA's leader, I need to take all viewpoints into account, whether I agree with them or not. If I didn't, members would take their renewals and vote with with their feet and go elsewhere.

Strong leadership also requires strong humility and respect for others. As long as I am TLCA's President, I will never force my own views down the throat of our board or our members. The name change idea has come up over the years over and over again. I am going to bring this to a vote once and for all. This vote will represent you and all our members.

Thank you for your comments, they are much appreciated!

Happy cruisin'!

Mark to be honest there was no bias when it comes to the raffle truck. The truck is a POS and that was the feelings of many others that looked at it including Dan. We were asked to come out and give a honest opinion on the vehicle and when I did post the opinion you got upset and started attacking our club any chance you get because you didnt agree with the opinion. Before I sent the opinion of the raffle truck to tlca, it was posted in the private section and our club agreed. I dont see where it is biased. Also Dan the Chair person of the raffle truck committee also agreed with the accessment I posted.

Mark please feel free to post how Central Valley Crawlers has been biased toward the raflle truck. I think the deccription that was given to TLCA was pretty darn accurate. The rig is simply not a $3500 rig, it is a $500 parts rig. Please feel free to contact me anytime if you would like to discuss this further.

NO NAME CHANGE, don't muddy the water with a name change & expect it to fix TLCA's issues or think its the magic water that gonna bind us together.

KISS-keep, it, simple, stupid......

According to Jeff's latest post to BOSREPS, the membership was informed to feed back to either their Club Delegate or their Individual Rep of their opinion on a name change. Jeff has put this on this month's Agenda as a vote issue for tomorrow night.

I think I understand where Jeff is coming from -- he's tired of the rumblings and grumblings on the BOD and from members. So he wants a vote to put it to rest. Unfortunately, to me, it looks like it IS being shoved down our throats, as the committee only came back with a list of pro's and con's but made no recommendation, on purpose.

I hope it goes down in flames, but it will take 50% +1 vote to pass. It would be nice to have a month to ponder the points before making such a significant vote.

Since when was this a vote issue and how can there be a vote when there has not even been a motion. Also I believe that this should be brought to the members t vote on since the majority are represented on the BOD. I believe TLCA needs to stay TLCA, but it needs to be done the correct way.

Shouldn't really need to vote on something that is in the by-laws;

ARTICLE II - PURPOSE AND AIMS
A. TLCA shall be non-profit in character.
B. Bring together and promote the interest of four wheeling.
C. Preserve and protect the history of the Land Cruiser.
D. Protecting as well as enjoying our country's natural resources.
E. Support local, state or area associations.
F. Educate our members and the public on land use and rights issues, responsible off highway behavior and the environment.

No better way to preserve it than keep it in the name of the .org

I vote no for a name change

Why all the drama? Seems to me this is much ado about nothing. There appears to be very little, if any, support for a name change. Chapter reps were asked to get feedback from their chapters, Jeff included a request for feedback in the recent Trails, IRR's have gotten at lease some feedback from their people, etc. There does not appear to be enough support for the idea to move forward. Let the board hear the recommendations and someone can move that the issue be tabled indefinitely and we can move on. Done deal. We've got bigger fish to fry folks.

Thank you. As Ross alluded to above, there have been some VERY squeaky wheels on the board who insist that we have not taken this seriously. These are not nut-jobs, but bona-fide members of the TLCA board of directors who feel that they represent the views of their chapters and of potential TLCA members who happen to wheel some other model than one with "Land Cruiser" on the badge.

I would be remiss as leader if I did not take their views into account, let them have their say and make sure that everyone on the board has an opportunity to participate. We have talked this subject to DEATH and it is way past time to have a vote and settle the issue.
