After the plethora of BOD emails going around about changing the name of the TOYOTA LANDCRUISER ASSOCIATION, I thought I would look what was being discussed on MUD. With very little being posted here I decide to start a post.

IF you support a name change.......piss off and don't post here......start your own thread.

If, however like me, you think this is a completely insane idea please post up with your comments. Take a minute or you may find yourself in a whole new club...I'll be gone.

Who knows, maybe I'll start a new club and call it the TOYOTA LANDCRUISER ASSOCIATION. Anybody want to join?

what the hell are some of the suggestions?

sounds like a power grab, stupid idea to me

I've been a member of TLCA forever, it seems. I'm not overly active, but I continue to support the cause. The crap that's been going on lately is disconcerning

btw, #4778

From a business perspective I can understand the reasoning but this is the first thing I've heard of such a potential name change.

TLCA, the publisher of TT, has plenty of trucks and FJCs present in the mag and the by-laws state that you need a Toyota 4WD with a low-range transfer case, not that you need a Land Cruiser...so from that perspective I understand the potential reasoning behind the discussion and name change. TLCA membership is down, and with a plethora of potential members driving FJCs, trucks and 4 Runners it might be time to broaden the market base TLCA markets too - I'm not arguing that it is time, only that it might be time to discuss such.

I would love to hear view points from both sides of the fence - not only the side of don't change it or "piss off."

Then start your own thread. This thread is to see if people even know this is being discussed within the BOD and how many of us disagree with the idea. The difference between you and me is simple. The club is just that A CLUB. It is not a business in the sense it needs to grow and profit. It is obvious that it shouldn't lose money but why does it really need to make money. It should simply keep its expenditures within the constraints of its revenues. Not rocket science.
I'm tired of all the garbage on the BOD list never coming out to the members. I apologize if "Piss Off" is offensive to some, but, maybe a little offense is what is needed.

If the BOD is thinking of a name change, I think ALL TLCA members should vote on it, not just the BOD. I joined because it was a "Land cruiser" Organization. I do not mind if other makes of Toyota 4x4 join, but the name should stay true to it's roots.

I agree

I was introduced to TLCA by a father and son on their way back from Rubithon that we ran into in Monache Meadows. We had seen plenty of other rigs that trip, and the Cruiser folks are the only one's that stopped to say hi, check out my rig, etc.
Been a member ever since.

Agree 100%. No name change.

The TLCA is trying to keep the ship afloat for one thing. They are just floating ideas right now.

If you don't talk about ideas or concepts nothing will ever get done.

You have to look at all the avenues.

If someone throws an idea out you have to at least talk about it. Just like you are doing here. What ever you do talk about it in a civil way.

Saying your going to form your own TLC club is not the right way to go about it.

The beauty of online forums is that ideas can be aired, and discussed without being interrupted ....

Anyhow, I don't think the name should be changed, do you know how many TLCA stickers I'd have to replace?

Seriously, no name change, what could it possibly hope to accomplish? (remember New Coke?)

the name change topic comes up every year, causing a ton of churn at the BOD levels, ususally pisses someone to no extent and dies an aggravated and undocumented death.

Leave it alone, says the driver of a mini truck.

I think they should change the name to TLUA.

Toyota Land Use Association

That way, they aren't pigeonholed in by a name and can appeal to other lines of Toyota owners. If their main focus is on land use issues, it just makes sense. Kinda like how this board has gotten away from the tag line "exclusively Land Cruisers."

I guess I should just go piss off now...

I first heard about this a few years ago in Moab, For whatever reason some folks feel that the word Landcruiser singles out TLCA and so anyone with a 4 runner or any other Toyota wont join and membership falls to the wayside. I say BS it has nothing to do with what you drive its in the Heart !!!!!!! There is a History behind TLCA and its one I am Proud to be apart of. Landcruisers set the mark all 4 Wheel drives Cruisers or Trucks. There's something special about a Landcruiser and they do draw people close if only to whtch them in action. Keep the History of TLCA in tact. Keep the Name.

Sounds like TLCA is stating to forget about the old school die hard crowd, they shouldn't cange the name or dilute lancruiser content in its publications any further, or they could loose the core group
