Not a cruiser, price is probably astronomic, but still too cool not to post.

Come on Ryan you know you want it,great price, throw a diesel in it,take it camping and windsurfing.

Yeah, on some level I do want it. On another , it would just sit for a long time, by then, there'll be lots of other cheap options.

I don't think I want the 80 fatness...suspension, and axles yes, boated body, no. I won't be making any sparks in the barn for quite a while, so I have time to revise my scheme. :hillbilly:

$1800 seems very cheap. Someone must want one.

Ryan,

What the heck is happening with that Keith's HZJ73? Maybe you should take that thing off his hands?

That thing has been for sale for months. It was $2500ish this summer I remember. Never did get a chance to look at it in person............. I'd get it in a heartbeat if it was 1994+

Nathaniel... I get the feeling you are itching for a LHD swap.

Our TDI Golf is small enough now that the kids are starting to argue before we even go anywhere. "I'm not sitting behind Dad!" "yes you are"...no I'm not."....etc.

I tried to talk the wife into a LHD manual diesel 80 series...... she was less than keen. Ill wait a week or so and start nagging again.

You need to prime your kids to keep nagging each other. Then the :princess: will be less picky about the solution! :D

I have a similar issue, I floated the idea to Mel she should get rid of the crv in favour of a cruiser.

Not well received.

She likes 80's, but neither of us want to bother with rhd, or auto...which pretty much excludes everything rolling at the moment, and I'm not in the mood for an engine swap right now.

she also has this idea that she'd never get to drive it...can't imagine why...

Yeah, and if the 300k miles is correct, that's a lot. Probably burns it's own weight in fuel per month  so those old pigs are only going to get cheaper.

Exhibit A; cheapest Lx 450 I've seen.

I'm thinking beige/gold LX450... very common, should be easy to find. Beats hunting for something rare. Comes with 3rd row seats, factory lockers, "updated" dash style (I would delete fake wood). Then, strip all flares and plastic, weld holes, weld sunroof, bed-line desert tan. Canvas tan seat covers. My engine (if it ever stops smoking) and a H151 5-speed from Oz. Hopefully end up with something looking like this:

We did asigned seating way back in the day, girl behind girl, boy behind boy...

Now they drive us around, cheaper than a cab...

Until they crash your car...

Rob:p

Wonder if it has holes in the floor:hhmm:

I'm gonna go with probably...

It's not all that far from me, but the fact the ad says they've had tons of emails, and yet it's still for sale, tells a bit of a story.

On another note, I had a look at the cheap 80 (if anyone cares).

It's not that bad. Body and interior fairly clean. Has the 3rd row seats. (always amazed to see those still installed after 20 years.)

All the power windows need new tracks, which sucks.

Worthless boat anchor under the hood, no lockers, which also sucks.

I peered underneath, imagined myself under there cursing and fabbing crossmembers and such, and wasn't filled with enthusiasm at the prospect.

I didn't drive it, so no listening for clicks when turning happened.

Nice guy that owns it. Sadly we spent more time bsing about my vw than the cruiser....

It would require him accepting the mother of all lauballs for me to end up with it, so I think my passive aggressive/wait for cruiser to fall in lap search continues.

I once had a guy offer me a bj70 while I was ordering coffee at Tim's...these things do happen. :hillbilly:

I once saw on the forum someone who put a 3b in an 80 series. If anyone could do it, you could.

Ah the worst you could say is no if the BJ70 sucks
