I wouldn’t buy a newer domestic diesel. Injectors for a 6.NO are $8000 a set and only last 100 k miles.

My '97 even has more computers than I'd like. That said 7.3 Diesels are known to go forever and are crazy reliable.
I'd be happy to go back to '70s tech... he says as he's got an '87 TPI setup waiting to bolt on.
Yep, I hear you on the commuting thing. My fiancee is learning quickly how much I enjoy buying new vehicles... Bought two last week 
One is strictly a commuter... Found a deal on a 2017 e-golf and figured we might as well give it a try. She's driving around 100km per day if she takes the car to work so even in her little diesel c30 it's expensive. Diesel here is currently around $2.40 per liter which is cheap compared to last year when it was $3.30...
Plan is to charge the car at night when the electricity is almost free then she can drive to work and back and do running around with this thing... It's basically a golf retro fitted at the factory with an electric motor and batteries, upside being it looks pretty modular and easy to work on, and half of it is identical to gas/diesel parts wise... downside will never get the range that a car designed initially as a electric would get. Part of me figured it would be an easy way to get into working on electric cars... I've been wanting to try building something electric for ages but need to get done the house first...

Ya I have an electric excavator which is pretty nice... I've got a 20hp motor sitting here that I've been thinking of converting an old tractor with... Would save a bundle on lawn cutting...On the electric subject,

They'd be kinda fun too. I liked the 2wd one I had with the lame engine well enough.
Only got like 5mpg better than my 60 tho

Likewise.... too rich for my blood for an old car. I also wouldn't buy new. I'll keep all my cars till they are as old as my 40 is now if I can. Although it's hard to say if we'll still be able to buy fuel in another 30 + years.Haha, I wondered... "14k...he can't possibly think that's cheap???"

Would not even have posted here had it initially been that price.
I'm actually fine with most new car tech until driver aids and emissions went too far. I grew up with carburetors and don't miss at all. EFI was great.
I've got two great vehicles that both have EFI... they have been incredibly reliable vehicles. The Prius with 5 computers does scare me slightly.
I have some concern that I'll have to scrap a vehicle because some computer or some sensor is no longer available. I got around a NLA vacuum retard for a '71 GT6 fairly easily... what happens when an ECU is NLA for a newer vehicle? Or some brake actuator or abs controller?
There's an argument to be made for 4 wheel disc brakes, straight forward EFI, and not having 20 sensors & a pile of computers.
