I actually like those things. Apparently the axles are tough as heck. Cool truck for a good deal imho. I think the Aussies like these.

I thought you might… and you’ve mixed enough blood with cruiser parts that we’d even let you hang around if you bought it. I would at least… can’t really speak for the others.

You could probably slap a Toyota hood ornament and a couple Landcruiser emblems on it if need be ;)

Based on a 2 minute google search those turbo diesels seem to be good… unlike yours that you’ve gone to such lengths to make “reliable”.

These days a decent Diesel 4x4 for less than 10k seems like a rarity… and it sounds like there’s enough spare parts with it to keep it going for a long time.

I don't think the motor is turbo. When people do turbo them, they have all the problems of the 2LT apparently. Overheating, cracking heads etc. The problem is IDI diesels across the board all manufacturers don't take well to turbo+high loads because of the pre-combustion chambers in the cylinder head (inefficient dump heat into head/coolant). That's the common denominator: the fundamental technology.

Normally aspirated the IDI diesels are great though; even the L series like 2L/3L/5L.

All Toyota's turbo diesels in HD Landruisers are direct injection (DI) which is why they're fine.

But yeah, as cool as those trucks are, I'd be starting over again on maintenance/upgrades and I don't think would gain much at the end of the day. Now if that motor was turbo diesel direct injection, I probably would consider it, as that would be a huge advantage.

Hopefully that truck/parts goes to a good home though.

When i searched TD42 it seemed like it could be a turbo. That said, other articles indicated the engines of that vintage were somewhat better able to withstand aftermarket Turbos (pre ‘94 or something similar). Post ‘94 had thinner pistons and rods or something like that (couple days since I skimmed through the article) and I’m not overly interested in doing a bunch of research on something I’m not interested in buying.

I’m thinking the TD42 is a turbo… it looks like stock it does well, but modifications and hard use lead to issues.

But I very well could be wrong, and to be sure that exact one is, contacting the seller would be the easiest way to find out for sure.

Thanks for looking into it! In any case, I'm holding off on a new vehicle for now. Mortgage done in 1.3 years, then depending on how the LJ78 is doing, might start looking. LJ has been running fantastic thankfully.

Under your knowledgeable hands it will run forever. No worries.

Those 4.2 patrol y60s came as both turbo and non turbo options from the factory. Nice trucks. I have a buddy with one and from what I have seen the parts cost are a killer in North America, typically like 50% more than the same thing for a cruiser

That's kinda cool. Perkier engine than the one I had (it was a dog) but 250hp seems like a reach...

This one is even a LHD… :D

Doesn’t seem like a terrible price considering what garbage goes for these days.

250 “vacuum” hp… like my 5 hp peak shop vac that is rated at 10 amps. :D from a 4 banger diesel 🤣

I've been keeping my eye out for one of those Frontiers to put my extra 3B 5 speed into although I hate working on Nissans.

They're kinda s***ty trucks to drive those 2000 ish frontiers to be honest.

There was one at work, it really sucked...mind you it did have the maintenance department looking after it🤣

I can't say... I don't fit in most imports. They're not built for 6'4" 270ish.

The shoemakers kids always have the worst shoes.

Decent looking local 60 series. @stevebradford : for your buddy who was on the snow run this winter? Buyer would have to have a close look at whats under the bottom half primer...lol.

Sadly selling my BJ60. This is my favorite vehicle I've owned, these old Land Cruisers are tanks. I'm selling it to move to an 80 series.
I have tried to keep this truck as close to original as possible. It's never failed me as a daily driver / weekend adventure rig.
Previous owner swapped the engine to the 4 cylinder diesel.
The body:
1985 FJ60 with minimal rust and ~300000km
The engine:
Turbocharged 1988 3B with 487000 km
The bad
The paint is fading in places, the horn doesnt work, and it has an oil leak
Recent New parts:
-Water pump (last 6 months)
-Alternator (last year)
-Batteries (last year)
-Windshield (last 2 months)
Aftermarket parts:
- OME 4" heavy duty lift kit
-35x12.5 BFG KM3s
-15" american racing alloy wheels
-CT-26 turbo
-LED headlights
-RV towing plug
-4.11 gears

Thanks!

Yeah he’s on it, we are going to have a look at it tonight.

1988 3B?? Don’t think anything that late came to Canada with the 3b maybe 13BT??

My eyes only see in low res these days, but I think that's the same 60.
