I was just poking around on Christos site and saw this:
http://www.sleeoffroad.com/products/tjm_t17_front.htm
It looks pretty darn good, can accommodate a winch, is lighter weight, has dryer protection, and doesn't break the bank. Is anyone running this on their rig? Damn, if I hadn't just sprung for new rotors and pads all around I would be getting one now.

An excellent light offroad bar for sure.

If you plan to wheel hard I wouldn't know if I would take that route, but for a DD with light duty it is just the ticket and looks pretty stock.

I was going to go that way until I decided to go fulltime wheeler.

Skeddy has one on his FZJ. Dan hit it right. It's a good quality lighter duty bumper that'll work great for a daily driver 95% of the time. I was looking at it then got a great deal on my ARB. Plus, I prefer a little more front end protection from elk/deer strikes than the TJM17 provides.

Check out Skeddy's set up on the Reader's Rides section for another view. PM him if you have other questions.

I got one on my LX450. I like it alot. Its not as heavy duty as the ARB's but for light offroad it's great. Give plenty of ground clearance, lighter weight than the ARB and is discreet, sorta stock looking. I put on a warn 9000 when I'm heading to the hills but usually take it off to save some weight around town. One thing I didn't like was the bolt-on wings. Not sure why they weren't welded on. Great as a step also since there isn't the bull bars in the way. Haven't bashed anything hard with it yet, so I'm not sure how it will stand up.

How thick is that sheet metal? Looks like about 1/8" from the pictures but hard to tell. same question for the ARB?

I actually like the cleaner look of the TJM better, I have a friend who does excellent custom work if I can ever get some $ and time together might copy/improve on that design for my expected uses I do not need protection above the bumper

Nice bumper. This was the bumper I was looking at until I got a great deal on a ARB winch bar.

The rig in Reader's Rides looks pretty slick with it. I agree with Greddy - the bolt on wings didn't make much sense. Depending on your planned use, the lighter weight would have some advantage while still getting the winch mount and improved approach angle.

I'm looking at one of these too - anyone know the actual weight?

CruiserMaine...What are you doing looking at bumpers if your sig says the 80 is for sale?

And personally I would just save up the extra $$$ and spring for an ARB. Keep checking the classifieds too, they pop up everynow and then.

This post is 9 months old:)

Yes - now that I've used the hallowed search bar - can someone answer my question?

Have you tried the hallowed Google?
How about the hallowed email to TJM?
:D

Any reason besides cost that you're considering the TJM over other options? Is it only cost?

Personally, I'm not too impressed with the overall strength of the TJM as compared to the ARB.

The overall design is similar to the ARB, so it's safe to assume the weight will be aproximately the same. If I were to venture a guess, I'd say 80 to 90 pounds, give or take 20 libs.

I found a Rover site that listed the ARB for their rigs at 90 lbs and the comparable TJM at 120 lbs...for whatever that's worth.

I had a TJM (think it was also labeled as TJM 17) on my 4Runner. It is as several here stated a good lighter weight lighter duty bumper than the ARB. One thing that I definitely did not like as much as my ARB is the mounts hung down much lower than the bumper did. I'm not sure if this is specific to fitment on a runner with IFS but the damn mounts hung down much lower than the bumper. The other thing I noticed is some bubbling of rust under the powdercoat specifically over some of the welds. Dont know if this was from flexing or if it was poor powdercoat or what but it will definitely have to be chipped off, sanded up and painted over before too long and so far no signs of that on the ARB anywhere. HTH

Like Turbocruiser above I also had a TJM-15 on my 4Runner--it was cheaper than the ARB. I did t-bone a car at low speed--other car was traveling at high speed--it totalled the other car while just breaking the screw on the bumperet of the TJM. The ARB is certainly more stout--I think that should be your number #1 choice--it is only $250 more over the TJM..... If you do get the TJM plan on welding on the side wings--both bumpers are good...I just think the ARB suits the Land Cruiser better :)

Like SR. G I rear ended a pickup with my Taco and TJM-15 (new Yoko M/T's DO NOT stop well  ) and I really did a number to that pick up and all I did was break the screws off of the bumperettes. If that was the stock Taco bumper I would have had airbags in my face and a mangled fron end.
