Hello All,
I'm moving down to Al for the next couple of years and I looking for some suggestions on tires for the type of wheeling in the area. I just finished looking at the photo's of the skyline ride and it looked like some really sticky clay/mud in a lot of the areas. Obviously something that could clear the voids would be beneficial. But at the same time it appeared as some of you were running ATs....though caked...and were doing just fine.
I've got it down between two tires just can't decide because I don't know the areas I'm going to be wheeling. My main off-roader is getting parted out and providing parts for my wifes rig but we are getting rid of the tires. So these new tires (which ever I get) are going on what will be our Daily Driver/Off-Roader for the next two years minimal miles though as it is now a short drive to work.
I'm leaning heavily toward the GoodYear Duratrac. I like the idea that I can have my cake and eat it too. Quiet on the road with hopefully a decent wear pattern, but at the same time comes with large voids on the side and a protective sidewall for the rocks. Wife would be most happy with this tire as it is her DD. On the other hand there is the BFG KM2 which will do better in the mud and I hear deflates and grips well on the rocks due to the tread pattern. I'm not so sure about the road noise for the ladies Daily Driver and if the tire life will be as long as the Duratrac....not to mention in the 315 variety it is a bit more spendy as well.
Thanks for any input...U-haul is getting loaded up today and we are on our way Monday morning.
