Hello All,

I'm moving down to Al for the next couple of years and I looking for some suggestions on tires for the type of wheeling in the area. I just finished looking at the photo's of the skyline ride and it looked like some really sticky clay/mud in a lot of the areas. Obviously something that could clear the voids would be beneficial. But at the same time it appeared as some of you were running ATs....though caked...and were doing just fine.

I've got it down between two tires just can't decide because I don't know the areas I'm going to be wheeling. My main off-roader is getting parted out and providing parts for my wifes rig but we are getting rid of the tires. So these new tires (which ever I get) are going on what will be our Daily Driver/Off-Roader for the next two years minimal miles though as it is now a short drive to work.

I'm leaning heavily toward the GoodYear Duratrac. I like the idea that I can have my cake and eat it too. Quiet on the road with hopefully a decent wear pattern, but at the same time comes with large voids on the side and a protective sidewall for the rocks. Wife would be most happy with this tire as it is her DD. On the other hand there is the BFG KM2 which will do better in the mud and I hear deflates and grips well on the rocks due to the tread pattern. I'm not so sure about the road noise for the ladies Daily Driver and if the tire life will be as long as the Duratrac....not to mention in the 315 variety it is a bit more spendy as well.

Thanks for any input...U-haul is getting loaded up today and we are on our way Monday morning.

Second set of wheels with mud tires and the keep the AT's for the street?

Duratracs probably aren't gonna do much good. Anyways let us know when you get here and we'll see you at a ride!

What part of Bama are you moving too?

BFG KM2 MT does a good job.

I could keep the ATs but the rears are under 50% and the fronts didn't wear evenly becuase of PO. My buddy who is parting it out up here is just going to sell them. I don't have a lot of space or yard for storage. After this DITY Move and knowing the army is going to keep me moving around I'm trying to go back to my minimilist roots which have long since withered and dried up in the past few years.

I'm moving to Enterprise (just south of Ft. Rucker). Sadly it appears most of the good trails seem to be up North about 4 hours in AL.

BTW if anyone wants a Super Charger I'm not keeping that. It is helping pay for my new lift and these tires. I'll be posting in the main section. But SC $2500, Lift (I think sold), and basically the rest of the stock truck to include drivetrain are getting parted out.

There is one new park near there called Boggs and Boulders-the owner gave me a tour, but I have not wheeled it yet. Mostly geared towards mud and ATV's, but it does have some truck trails and a fair amount of rocks in a couple of spots.

And don't forget Auburn's new park... small but will be fun... it's only 1.5 hours from you straight up Hi231 and then get on Hiway 29 ( it's south of Auburn on 29)

Yep! In fact check out Eric's other thread-we'll be at it next weekend.

Goodyear MTR Kevlar

Just can't get rid of me Jason

I'm the one who is going to be parting the rig out for him.

whoa! what rig is being parted out? I love parts i can't use! Especially engines!

what is it?

96 FZJ80

It was heavily modified but most of those parts are being kept by Jason, me or are already spoken for. Some interior and everything under the hood, including a brand new rad and super charger will be up for grabs though.

Yeah I'm sure a lot of people were close to buying it but it lived a very hard life and scared a few people away. It made one heck of a trail rig...couldn't beat it..the one time I took it out all I did was point and it did all of the work....but with two rigs in the driveway it was not worth the time (the little of it I had) to fix all of the problems to make it a great expedition rig which is what I need at this point.

So parting out of the built trail rig and putting most of it on the wife's current rig.

The ARB'd/4.88 axles are spoken for as well as the lift and snorkle. I'm taking all of the bumpers F/R, Winch, Sliders/ T-case saver, Compressor, Hand Throttle, and quite a few of the other parts.

Still leaves a SC and basically stock rig at that point. Has a new aluminum radiator and a few other goodies here and there.

I'm about to move away from Alabama for awhile, and have an extra set of five tacoma wheels with 285 BFG M/Ts on them that are in very good condition. If you're interested, I'd be glad to talk with you about selling them. I'm not sure I want to haul them with me when I leave. This is on a 97 80.

I'm moving in June to DC. I can't come next week, because I'm going to be up in the DC area looking for a place to live. I am moving up there because my wife is going to do a radiology residency up there.

I might be interested in the wheels, maybe the tires too. If you want to get rid of them Pm me what you would like to get for them.
